FINLEY's Story

Meet FINLEY!<br/><br/>With his striking blue eyes and gorgeous coloring, this incredibly handsome boy is guaranteed to steal your heart at first sight. At around 4 years young, Finley is an extra-friendly, affectionate guy who absolutely adores being around people. He is looking for a forever home where he can be showered with the love and attention he so richly deserves!<br/><br/>Finley has a couple of unique details that just add to his charm:<br/>His Signature Walk: At some point in his past, Finley broke his back right leg. It healed beautifully on its own, so it doesn't bend in the middle like his other legs, but this absolutely does not slow him down. He gets around perfectly fine and is just as playful as any other cat!<br/>An FIV+ Vibe: Finley has Feline Immunodeficiency Virus (FIV). While this means his immune system needs a little extra support, according to the Cornell Feline Health Center, FIV-positive cats who receive proper nutrition, routine veterinary care, and an indoor lifestyle can live long, full, and healthy lives.<br/><br/>Adopting an FIV-positive cat is a deeply rewarding experience, as many owners find these cats to be exceptionally loving companions.<br/><br/>"FIV-positive and -negative cats can live together as long as all cats are spayed or neutered, remain indoors and interact peacefully.<br/> Since stress can exacerbate the clinical course of both FeLV and FIV infection, adoption into a home setting is likely to result in better long-term outcomes.<br/><br/>Finley is seeking an understanding adopter who will give him a safe, comfortable indoor environment and all the cuddles he can handle. Because of his FIV, he is best suited for a single-cat household (or a home with other compatible FIV+ cats), where he can just be his charming, lovable self

Mercer Humane Society's Adoption Policy
The potential adopter completes and adoption application in person or online. This application is reviewed by at least one member of our board. We specifically ask about current or previous pets, including their veterinarian information. We also ask if they rent or own their own home, if renting they must provide their landlords information. The board member will call the vet office to confirm their information and find out if their pet(s) were well cared for and kept up to date on vaccines or other medications. If the adoptee stated they rented a home, the board member will contact the landlord to confirm they are allowed to have a pet, if their is a pet fee, and is their rental policy breed specific. If everything else looks good, no red flags jumping out, then the adoption is approved. At this point the adopter completes the adoption contract and is able to take the pet home. Sometimes this all happens on the same day, sometimes it can take a day or more, depending on the time it takes to confirm the references.
