Fiammetta's Story
Get ready... we're about to introduce you to our little Fiammetta! If you google her name, you will immediately see 3 things: 1- that the name itself is of Italian origin and means "little flame," often associated with passion and a powerful, though small, light. 2- there is a 6-star Artilleryman Sniper operator in the mobile game Arknights named Fiammetta who is a force to behold, and whom loves her friends with a great obsession. 3- in the Decameron, Fiammetta is one of the most assertive women- clever, independent, resourceful, admires those same qualities in others, and often engages them in competitive storytelling about the nature of love. Our gorgeous Fiammetta also bears this strong dichotomy- equal parts intense love for her people and a bit of an internal flame that needs some disciplined nurturing. SoCSR took on Fiammetta on after she was trapped, spayed, and treated for bite wounds from some sort of animal attack. Afterwards, her tail became infected and had to be partially amputated. At only a year old, this kitty has developed defense mechanisms from what seems like a lot of previous trauma... yet she is full of love and wants affection so desperately! Fia has been in her foster home for 4 weeks with an experienced foster family who nurtures her physical and emotional vulnerabilities so that she can shed her defenses. Here is what her foster mom would like you to know: "Fia is a WONDERFUL, full of love kitty who needs an experienced kitty person or family who will understand her, LEAD her in love, and commit themselves to helping her work through the hardships life has handed her. At some point she must have had a home because she is socialized, VERY affectionate, and seeks out human interaction with a fervor. I absolutely love, LOVE sleeping with Fia. She sleeps with me every night, sweetly accepts being let under the covers, and happily tucks herself into me as the 'little spoon'. Like a typical Siamese kitty, she follows me around and desires to be near me and/or the rest of the family at all times. She turns into a lap kitty if you are sitting at the desk and she will join you on whatever piece of furniture you choose, just so that she can be beside you. She is adorably vocal when she wants something but she is not an incessant chatter-box. She constantly pushes her pretty little face into my hands for rubs and I love to kiss the top of her head as she does so. Honestly, it melts my heart and I really feel her love and desire for acceptance when she does this. Fia adores toys- especially her toy mice (I've just ordered her 20 more to keep her busy!). She loves her wand toy (naturally) and is always ready to play. She is still only a baby at a year old and her hunter instinct is very strong, so she will do best with someone who will provide her with lots of enrichment and play time. She does know how to chill out (which is really nice and sort of unique for such a young cat) but no doubt she will need someone who spends time at home and enjoys furry companionship. She uses her litter box religiously and is extremely neat. She has learned what a scratching post is, uses it 99% of the time, but needs a little reinforcement like any kitty her age. I have not yet gotten to the point where she is amiable to nail clipping but I hope to get there soon! She has a great appetite and doesn't seem to be picky (she currently eats wet food and raw food at our house, like our resident kitties). She sometimes sees her amputated tail as a rival (maybe phantom pain, maybe just the sensation from nerve regeneration) but it's dissipating with time. It is important to remember that four weeks is such a short period of time and it takes time for the body and heart to heal from injury or trauma. When it comes to other pets, Fiametta should be a one and only. She has not stopped fighting with our resident cats through the screen door that separates them (which is probably half her street survival method and half her reaction to our twin one year old cats being jerks) and will do best in a home where she does not have to stress about another animal. But here is the main reason our loving girl needs a feline savvy person- she bites. She bites when she is overstimulated and also love bites. BUT, SHE HAS COME A LONG WAY IN 4 WEEKS. At first the bites were hard, frequent, and she begged for physical touch but became easily overstimulated and reacted poorly. Now, she is laying in front of me on the desk as I type, body melting into mine, head resting in the crook of my arm, and I am periodically kissing the top of her pretty little, fuzzy-soft head. I firmly believe that she will overcome the biting, but she will need a human family who will be consistent with helping her to understand that biting doesn't have to be a way for her to show her feelings. This loving support has absolutely been working in our home, and I am really proud of her progress. I've seen a huge improvement and it's really satisfying. Now, Fia often licks my fingers and responds positively to a firm, "NO/ NO BITING/KISSES ONLY PLEASE" when she gets a little too excited and wants to use her teeth. I've also learned to touch her in a way that is softer than my usual touch so that she doesn't get overstimulated. Our physical and emotional bond has grown exponentially as we learn from one another and she knows that I love her as much as she loves me. Fia has the absolute BIGGEST heart, and I firmly believe that in the right home she will be the most loyal, loving, and spectacular fur-baby companion. She IS a little bit of project right now, but she is also the sweetest little gem with so much potential... and I love her a great deal. Fiammetta is an amazing kitty that just needs the right person to continue to show her the way to a life filled with love, security, and happiness. If you are still reading this and feel that she may be the right fit, I invite you to reach out with any questions or interest in our baby. The love you put into Fia will most certainly be returned to you ten-fold."<br/> fostered in Santa Ana
