Felix's Story

Felix is a miracle kitty who survived one of the most gruesome injuries we have ever seen. A Good Samaritan reached out to our organization a few months ago when Felix turned up on their property with severe trauma to the left side of his body. We were able to trap him and rushed him to a vet hospital where he was stabilized and had his front leg amputated. Felix has since recovered in foster care.

Felix is a bit of an odd ball in that he absolutely loves to be part of the action, often following me from room to room, sitting on the couch with us watching TV and even spending the night in bed with us. He adores other cats and has a little girlfriend, Fiona that he often cuddles up to and grooms. He has never met a cat he doesn't want to befriend.

Despite being a jovial, happy go lucky kitty, Felix does not like to be pet. He will allow you to get close to him, sniff your hand, follows you closely, but he is not a fan of being touched by humans. We imagine this is a result of being harmed by someone, given the extent of his injuries when we found him. I do believe that with time and patience, he may learn to love being scratched and pet by human hands. However, it's also possible that he will never warm up to human touch so his adopter must understand that and appreciate him in all of his glory. If you attempt to pet him, he typically backs up or gives you a little hiss. He does not scratch or bite as a result of unwanted touching, but we respect his boundaries.

Felix is negative for feline leukemia, but he did test positive for FIV, which is an immunodeficiency virus. Many cats with FIV live long, happy lives with a high quality, species appropriate diet, as well as supplements (probiotics, digestive enzymes, antioxidants) and routine vet care. Felix is in great health despite having FIV. While Felix is positive for FIV, he is not separated from our FIV negative kitties, as he is very docile and non-aggressive. FIV is only transmitted through very deep bite wounds, so Felix does not pose a risk of infecting other cats in our home because he gets along so well with other kitties. We do prefer he goes to a home with another playful cat that is used to feline companionship. He is also available for adoption with one of our other kitties.

Felix is neutered, up to date on vaccines, is negative for feline leukemia, has been treated for parasites and is microchipped. Please send adoption inquiries via Petfinder. The vet estimates that Felix is about 1.5-2 years old.
