Enrique's Story

A volunteer writes:
Enrique and twin Julio were found locked in a box in front of the Manhattan Care Center. They were soo afraid and it took a while for them to relax and start trusting us. Nothing is known about their past but what really counts now is to make them feel better and find them a loving home. Enrique has come out of his shell while he is still a little bit tense at times. Perseverance and belief that is a great cat, pay and Enrique now, even comes out of his kennel onto my lap for a good petting session. He likes his cuddles, for sure, head bunting vigorously my hand and purring. I am so proud of Enrique, a beautiful tiger with impressive cheeks and who is so ready to meet his new family to start a new and happy page in his life. Come and meet lovely Enrique at the Manhattan Care Center!

What my friends at ACC say about me:
Enrique is laying in his flip bed, body and eyes relaxed as the assessor approaches. When the kennel door is opened, he picks his head up and looks up at the assessor. Petting is attempted and he is briefly tense before leaning into petting on the head and cheeks, closing his eyes. He gets up, stretching as he exits the bed and approaching the front of the kennel to greet the assessor with a head bunt. He allows all petting, leaning in and raising his back as he is pet. During the assessment his tail does display some piloerection, but he remains social, does not escalate, and continues to allow extended handling. He calmly walks out of the kennel and is able to be easily picked up, remaining calm when he is held. When he is placed back into the kennel, he continues to allow and lean into all further petting and handling, head bunting the assessor's hand as he is pet. He once again calmly walks out of the kennel and remains easy to pickup and place back.

Enrique has made a lot of progress during his stay at the care center! He interacts with the observer, solicits and appreciates attention, is easy to handle and tolerates all petting. We recommend that Enrique go to a home with some cat experience preferred and be well counseled in new home adjustment and decompression.
