English Breakfast Tea's Story

What my friends at ACC say about me:
My history is a mystery and my friends here do not know much about me yet!
I would appreciate slow introductions to new people and places to help me feel safe.
Upon approach, English Breakfast Tea is laying curled up inside of his den, observing the assessor as they approach. When the kennel door is opened and he is spoken to softly, he remains curled up on his side in the den but does quietly observe the assessor as they speak to him. He is tolerant of all petting with the scratcher tool, tense on initial contact but leaning in slightly after a few seconds. He is tolerant of being directly pet on the head with the assessor's hand but remains tense and lip licks as he is pet. The assessor offers him a squeeze up and he hesitates briefly before leaning forward, sniffing it, and quickly eating it, attempting to grab the tube with his mouth to drag it into the den to continue eating. He is unable to be coaxed out of the den, so pickup is not attempted to avoid stress.

English Breakfast Tea tolerates attention and petting but appears fearful or stressed in the shelter. He may be a little more independent and may need time to warm up to his new home. We recommend that this cat go to a home with experienced cat parents.
