Emerson's Story
Emerson has had quite the life to date

He was presumably one of several thrown in to the back of a u-haul when the owners moved at the end of November - or perhaps he was also simply not "packed" at all

His friend, Mayme, the calico had moved downstairs to a porch on her own volition months before

The night that the owners had moved out Emerson came by crying frantically in the night and the people on another floor heard him - it was then December

They put out a heated tote and food for the duo

Then they contacted us and I was able to meet the concerned citizen on Dec 10th to intake them

Lucky for them we had a kind family offer to help us by fostering as our existing foster homes were full

Mayme was quite poofy so it was believed that she may be pregnant

Luckily that wasn't the case - turns out she's just a huge fan of food and has very short legs that don't help her proportions

Mayme and Emerson went to be spayed/neutered in January

Unfortunately Emerson could barely cope with being seperated for the ride to the vet

He had himself worked up and presented with a heart murmur so he was not neutered

Mayme had quickly wrapped everyone around her finger at the foster home and in the meantime one of the foster's relatives applied to adopt her

In order to give Emerson a better chance at remaining calm while transitioning the applicant offered for Mayme to stay in foster care until Emerson got thru his vetting

When they went back for their booster in February Emerson rode with Mayme this time and all went well - no murmur shown

Last week we had to seperate Emerson from Mayme to attend adoptable openhouses in hopes of finding him a home with another feline friend and we quickly saw that he is not himself when not with a familiar feline or human friend or in a familiar space

He was spooked

It took him a few days to decompress

Emerson has every reason to be worried when he isn't in a familiar spot with his feline and human friends, who he understandably takes comfort in, as he certainly could have had a kinder life

Yesterday Emerson went back to the vet for his next attempt at neuter and showed no signs of a murmur

We believe he was born sometime in October

He was successfully vetted and now is ready for his own home

When he got back to his foster home last night he rubbed up on Mayme and ran back and forth thru his familiar surroundings

Please note that Mayme is a tolerant girl so entertains Emerson but she did fine without him while he was gone

He will most certainly be able to adjust to the company of others as he used to live with many others

Tonight I got this photo of him comfortably in his element once again

Many people don't realize the stresses and neglect and hardships the discarded animals face

In January while Mayme and Emerson were safely in foster we sadly learned from their finder that when a clean up crew went in to the dwelling where the cats used to live (and opened a window to air it out) that a kitten that had somehow survived there by itself in the meantime, jumped out the second story window and was not seen again

Anyone with any compassion should only ever think about adding a pet to their family if they want to have them as part of their family for life - animals are not to be obtained and/or discarded on whim, nor meant to be left behind in the cold, or in a dwelling with no food or care, or to fend for themselves to find food, and/or avoid predators or other dangers such as vehicles etc

Unfortunately the real monsters in life are often humans

Thankfully he has some guardian angels too - his finders and his fosters and his vetting team

Now it is time for Emerson to find a loving home that is fairly quiet, with family members that will give him time to adapt

He most certainly needs a companion cat that is tolerant of a young kitten desperate to be loved

The adoption fee is $300 to help cover some of the costs of his 3 vet visits

He is fostered in Kincardine

You can apply to adopt by completing a cat adoption application online at www.adoptapet.lucknow.on.ca

We book meet and greets once we have a suited application

I am adding a photo of Emerson and his friend Mayme as well
Emerson has had quite the life to date

Mayme and Emerson went to be spayed/neutered in January
Unfortunately Emerson could barely cope with being seperated for the ride to the vet
He had himself worked up and presented with a heart murmur so he was not neutered
Mayme had quickly wrapped everyone around her finger at the foster home and in the meantime one of the foster's relatives applied to adopt her
In order to give Emerson a better chance at remaining calm whi
