Elvis's Story

Elvis is a feral orphan who came to us on January 9, 2022. A resident in our community called to say she had a kitten locked in her garage, and asked if we could catch it. We searched the garage for over an hour but saw no sign of the kitten other than the food she had put down was gone. We went back the next morning at 7:30 and set a trap. By 9:00 we had caught an extremely frightened feral kitten.

The husband of the lady who owned the house had recently passed away. They were originally from Memphis, and both were cat lovers. In a joyful reference to the family’s ties to Memphis, the husband’s obituary read, “Elvis has left the room.” And in the husband’s honor, that’s how Elvis got his name.

The rest of the story has been a typical feral journey but in fast motion. Usually we try to find something a feral wants – often it’s food, affection, or playtime. Elvis loves all three, which has made it easier for him to adjust. He immediately recognized us as his food source. He loves to be touched, and he loves to play. The vet said he is 10-11 weeks old (as of Jan 10). Although he was a little underweight, Elvis is otherwise healthy and vigorous. He is extremely intelligent and high energy, but also very gentle. He is also FIV/FeLV negative and completely litter trained. Smart boy.

Elvis is old enough to leave for his forever home now, but still needs a little time, space, and grace to completely adjust to life with human companions. If you would like to walk part of that journey with him, he is available for adoption now; otherwise, it may be another 2-3 weeks (say the end of January or early February) before he will be ready to leave.

If you would like to visit with Elvis, drop me a note at cherylsferalsandfosters@gmail.com or PM me to set up a time. In the meantime, if you are considering adopting him, please fill out and submit an adoption contract. You can download the contract from my website (cherylsferalsandfosters.com) or from my Cheryl’s Ferals and Fosters Chat Group Facebook page. We are a non-profit 501(c)(3).

The adoption fee of $150 covers FeLV/FIV testing, deworming, vaccinations, and neutering with our partner vet, Southern Paws Animal Hospital.
