Elf - Pending Adoption Domestic Medium Hair Mix Minneapolis, MN

Elf is a playful 7 month old who has a lanky (fine-boned and long) frame with a full medium hair coat. He has not taken ‘good care’ of his white socks and you will see that he has ‘holes’ in them!

He is a playful boy and quite self-confident. He’s hesitant around visitors to his foster home but soon comes out to see them with his tail erect, ready to meet them. Elf gets along with another cat or kitten but would do fine as an only cat as long as you were willing to give him a warm lap to snooze in regularly. He’s playful, loves windows to watch the goings-on outside (chipmunks, birds, people), and should a fly come into the house he’s ready to take care of that pest. He enjoys playing by himself but interacting with a person with a fishing pole-type toy is great too. Other favorites are soft toys to carry around, catnip toys, a ball in a track to chase around, and pipe cleaners coiled around a pencil to resemble a spring which he loves to carry in his mouth. If you’re heading to another room he quickly catches up and prefers to lead the way - dishes or clothes to wash, making the bed, etc. He does not like to have his claws cut and it is best done by two people.

Elf had some problems with soft stools as a younger kitten. He has been appropriately dewormed and is eating a prescription diet that agrees with his digestive tract. He may need to be on it for the rest of his life or may be able to be weaned off to another ‘otc' cat food gradually. He should stay on this food through the end of 2021 before trying to wean him from it. He will come with a generous supply of this food so you can get him to your vet to get a prescription for it. It can be ordered through Chewy or purchased from his vet. He is a ‘nibbler’ rather than a meal-eater although he loves his canned food and that goes down faster.

He has not been around children but should adapt to middle schoolers and older nor has he been around dogs but a guest to his home has a quieter dog who doesn’t chase him and Elf is curious about him.

All cats have received comprehensive veterinary care and tested negative for feline leukemia and FIV unless otherwise stated. Cats are up-to-date on age-appropriate vaccinations and have been spayed/neutered, treated for fleas and/or ear mites, de-wormed, and microchipped. Please note there may be additional follow-up visits and boosters that are not covered by Pet Haven after adoption.
