Effie's Story

The perfect love story! Effie and her boyfriend Rudra are proof that even cats can find true love. From the moment they met, they have become completely inseparable. Rudra is Effie's protector and caregiver, helping her feel more confident indoors after her back leg was removed. Effie may be shy, but she has a big heart! While she does not enjoy being pet like most other indoor cats, she shows affection to both her favorite people and her boyfriend Rudra daily through little meow conversations. She even brings people her favorite toys as 'gifts'! Effie's right back leg was completely removed last year due to a previous injury during her days outside in a feral cat colony. She has adjusted very well all things considered, does not require medication, and can even run around the house! You may notice her hopping around like a bunny. Despite her shyness around being pet, Effie loves playing with string toys and her favorite purple chew wheel toys. She also plays with Rudra daily, and does not let her missing leg stop her from zoomies! She is very bonded to her Rudra, meowing whenever he is away exploring. She nudges him constantly, and is always ready to cuddle him. Together, these two are the perfect pair, proving that love truly conquers all. Their bond is unbreakable, and they're looking for a forever home where they can continue their beautiful love story.

Independent Animal Rescue Inc.'s Adoption Policy

IAR Adoption Policies: -You must live within 60 miles of Durham, NC. -You must be able to make a 20-year commitment to the animal. -You must be at least 21 years of age. -You may not be an undergraduate student. -You must be a US citizen or permanent resident. -You must allow a home visit (an IAR volunteer to visit your home prior to adoption). -Current pet(s) in the home must be spayed/neutered. -Current pet(s) in the home must be up-to-date on vaccinations and be established with a veterinarian. Dogs must be on year-round heartworm prevention, cats must be felv/fiv negative and both cats and dogs must be on regular flea/tick prevention. -Puppies from the same litter (and puppies from different litters that are of a similar age) cannot be adopted at the same time. -Multiple simultaneous adoptions are only permitted for adult dogs who are known to be strongly bonded. -Kittens must be adopted in pairs or go to a home with another young cat.
