ECHO's Story
MACC PACK SPONSORING ADOPTION FEE! Meet Echo, a 7-year-old, 9-lb shorthaired cat with a gentle soul and a story that deserves a softer ending. Echo first came to MACC in October 2024 after biting her owner while being punished for urinating outside the litter box. She arrived very fearful, overwhelmed by the shelter environment, and was placed on gabapentin to help manage her stress. During her intake, staff also noted dental disease, and eventually an adopter was found who was willing to give her time, space, and address her medical needs. Unfortunately, it wasn’t the right fit and she returned to the shelter in August 2025. After an incident involving a child jumping on the bed, Echo became increasingly fearful in the home. The adopter reported episodes of aggression that felt unpredictable, and they ultimately felt unable to safely keep her. Back in the shelter, Echo has shown us who she really is. She has been nothing but lovely, greeting staff every day with a dramatic roll onto her back, soaking up attention, and showing a calm, mellow demeanor. In a quieter environment, Echo shines. She is not a chaotic cat, not demanding, and not looking for constant stimulation, she just wants to feel safe. Echo was heartbreakingly placed on the euthanasia list in Fall 2025 due to her previous home history, but an internal foster stepped in, and since November she’s been settling in, decompressing, and slowly coming out of her shell. With consistency and patience, she continues to show just how sweet and affectionate she can be. Echo would likely do best in a quiet, adult-only home with people who understand that fear-based behaviors come from stress (not malice) and that trust takes time. Give her a calm space, predictable routines, and respect for her boundaries, and she’ll reward you with gentle companionship and quiet affection. Echo has already survived more than most cats ever should. Now she’s ready for a home where she can finally exhale.
