Duke Wellington (DC)'s Story

Meet Duke Wellington!

Found deep in a window well, this charming tuxedo gentleman refused to give up hope. Instead, he sang a heartfelt song of meows until someone finally came to his rescue. In honor of his musical persistence—and with a little local flair—he was named Duke Wellington, a playful nod to legendary DC-born musician Duke Ellington. And just like his namesake, this Duke has presence, personality, and a voice worth listening to.

Duke is a classic tuxedo boy with a dapper black-and-white coat and an adorable little smudge on his nose that makes him look like he’s been getting into a bit of mischief… but don’t be fooled! He’s actually a very polite gentleman. He doesn’t chew on things or get into trouble. His one tiny indulgence? Occasionally hopping up on the nightstand to check what you’re up to.

What Duke truly loves most is people. He’s incredibly affectionate and will happily trot over when you offer pets. He adores being picked up and held, and he leans right into snuggles like he’s been practicing his whole life. He’s the kind of cat who wants to be near his person—lounging beside you, asking for affection, or simply keeping you company.

Despite being found very skinny, Duke has shown nothing but sweetness and gratitude. He patiently waits for his person to get up in the morning to feed him, like the polite housemate he is. He was also wonderfully well behaved during his nail trim—proof that this boy has excellent manners.

Duke has shown a friendly curiosity about other cats, so we believe he could do well in a home with feline companions. Mostly, though, he’s looking for a family who will appreciate his gentle nature and give him the love he clearly enjoys so much.

If you’re looking for a snuggly, affectionate, incredibly sweet companion with a tiny nose smudge and a big heart, Duke Wellington might just be your perfect duet partner.
