Daniel Day Mewis's Story

Daniel Day Mewis is an absolutely gorgeous seal point Balinese/Siamese cat, estimated at 3 years of age. Found as a stray and unclaimed, he is now ready for adoption into a home that best fits his needs.

Daniel is quite social with humans and enjoys being around them. Other cats? Not so much.
He would be happiest as the only cat. Possibly the only pet as he has not been dog tested.

Daniel enjoys being in the same room with his people and will follow them when they get up to go to another room. He honors no boundaries and will nonchalantly jump onto the kitchen countertops to enjoy a walk about. He will stop by the sink to see if there might be some water to lap out of a dirty dish sitting in there.

Recently his foster mom was spending time in the garage with temporary foster kittens. Daniel was aware she’d gone out without him and complained loudly about it. Finally he leaped up, grabbed onto the window frame, and held on for as long as he could before slowly sliding down the door. It was hysterical! Video of the slide down is posted.

Daniel absolutely LOVES being outside. He is only the second foster cat in 20 years of fostering, who was determined to join his people when they step outside. That makes him only the second foster to be promoted as needing a home where he can safely enjoy freely roaming his property for periods of time each day. Upon realizing his determination to be outside, his foster mom first attempted a walk with him secured in a dog stroller which has an enclosed mesh top. They didn’t even make it to the end of the driveway before they had to return due to his attempts to escape the stroller.

Daniel has been very good about staying in his own backyard, but twice has passed through a hole in the neighbors’ fence (which their cat uses to visit his foster mom) to investigate their backyard. He has not attempted to venture to the front yard so far. If left outside for hours on his own, he would most likely begin to venture further, hence the microchip.

Recently he proudly trotted over to his foster mom with a live chipmunk in his mouth, vocalizing all the way. He was not happy when he was forced to drop it.
He enjoys a short sprint after the occasional squirrel, and lounging behind the Japanese blood grass by the garden pond, waiting for a chance to pounce on a frog. One day he decided chasing birds was fun as there were so many of them flitting around that he just couldn’t contain himself. He was returned to the house at that point for awhile.
With the exception of the chipmunk, all other potential prey has escaped.

To be clear, Daniel is available for adoption as a primarily indoor cat with the opportunity to safely enjoy some time outdoors each day.

Interested potential adopters should respond via email to austinsfam@aol.com with the following:

1. Full name
2. Address (if renting, please provide name and phone number of the entity that can confirm they allow cats.)
3. Current pets, spay/neutered, age
4. Former pets from the past five years and why they are no longer in the home.
5. Current or recent veterinary clinic name and phone number
6. Current residents of the home: adults, children and children’s ages.
7. A short writeup as to your experience with cats and why you believe your home would be a great option for Daniel.

Please also research the Balinese breed, of which he displays many personality characteristics, to better ensure your home and lifestyle will be a good fit for him.

Daniel had a basic health check at a local clinic, tested negative for FIV/FeLV, received FVRCP and Rabies vaccinations, a microchip, confirmed to be neutered, and received an overall clean bill of health. He also received Revolution as a flea preventative.

Daniel’s adoption fee is $200, $50 of which will be refunded upon proof that Daniel has been accepted as a regular client at a veterinary clinic and has received an initial evaluation by a vet in that clinic within 30 days post adoption.

If you are interested in adopting Daniel, please copy, paste and respond to the above questions, then email his foster mom, Brenda, at: baustin62@outlook.com
