Cumin's Story

**NOTE: All AVA kittens under 12 months of age MUST be adopted in pairs or to a home with another young cat. AVA does not accept applications for single kittens**

***Cumin would really love to have brother Chili and/or momma Simone be adopted with her. She needs their comforting company to help navigate a new home and people.

Hi, I’m Cumin — a thoughtful little kitten with a gentle heart and a brave streak I’m still growing into.

I’m the quiet observer of my family, and I like to take my time getting to know new people and new spaces. When I first arrived in foster care and had a smaller, cozy room to decompress in, I surprised everyone by how much I enjoyed affection, especially belly rubs! That showed just how much potential I have once I feel safe and settled.

As I gained access to a larger space, I discovered something very exciting: places to zoom, hide, and dart under. With more room to explore, I’ve become a bit more cautious about hands reaching toward me. I may hiss sometimes to try to sound tough, but please don’t be fooled — it’s all talk. I’m not aggressive and I’ve never followed through with bites or scratches. I’m simply learning how to feel confident in a big world.

Like the rest of my family, food is my favourite confidence booster. Wet food and treats are incredibly helpful for building trust with me, and they make brave moments much easier. With consistency and positive experiences, I’ll keep learning that humans are safe and rewarding to be around.

I love playing like any kitten should — chasing toys, wrestling with my brother, and practicing my pounces. Playtime is one of the best ways to help me build confidence, burn off energy, and connect with my people at my own pace.
I’m already using my litter box beautifully and scratching only my approved cat items, which means I’m off to a great start as a house cat. What I need now is a patient, understanding adopter who will give me time, space, and encouragement to come out of my shell.

If you believe the most meaningful bonds are built slowly and gently, I promise I’m worth the wait.

Would you like to make Cumin and her family a part of your world? Please complete our online application found at: https://www.avacats.org/adoption-application-form.

Our adoption fees cover vetting and include spay/neuter, first-round of age-appropriate vaccines at the time of adoption, flea treatment, two dewormings and microchipping.

Adoption fees are $275 for each kitten up to 12 months old. Please note that fees may apply for additional required vaccinations (at $75 per booster) due prior to adoption. Total adoption fees will be confirmed by the AVA Adoption Coordinator.

All AVA kittens 12 months or younger must be adopted in pairs or go to a home with another young cat (3 years or younger). Kittens learn from each other how to behave, which helps them turn into well-adjusted adult cats. In general, paired cats have happier and healthier lives because they have a constant companion and playmate. Plus, it’s twice the fun for you, and half the work!
