CRULLER's Story
Cruller (Name originating from the Dutch word “krullen,” meaning “to curl”)

Intake: 2/20/25
Estimated Birthdate: March 2020

This bio is long overdue—and for good reason. Cruller needed nearly a full year to finally exhale, settle in, and decide that indoor life might not be so bad after all.
There’s no telling how long this handsome guy was out on his own, but by the time rescuer Mickie C. earned his trust and convinced him that porch life meant three solid meals a day, she knew it was time to get him off the streets for good. I still remember the pictures she sent me from his very first night indoors—Cruller was furious. He behaved horribly, desperately plotting his escape and longing for the great outdoors. Little did he know that a little tough love was exactly what he needed.

Cruller arrived in rough shape. His mouth told the story of years outside, with broken and worn teeth. He was covered in fleas, very much all boy (if you know what I mean 😏), and managed to injure his paws trying to make his great escape. He was beaten, battered, and deeply unsure—but within days, we struck a deal. The quickest way to Cruller’s heart, it turns out, is straight through his stomach.

Today, Cruller is a completely different cat. While he still likes to hiss on occasion and is not a fan of being picked up, he has come a long way. He now eats alongside the other cats, happily joins in toy time, and is often one of the first to greet us in the morning. Watching him grow more confident and comfortable has been incredibly rewarding.

Cruller would truly thrive in a quieter home of his own, ideally with a couple of calm feline companions. He seems to prefer being part of a group rather than having all the attention on himself. While he may never be a constant lap cat, he has recently started seeking out affection—approaching us for pets when he decides it’s time. And when he’s done? He’s done. Boundaries are important to this guy.

Being a small fish in a big pond hasn’t fully allowed Cruller to shine, but even so, the progress he’s made is remarkable. With patience, respect, and a peaceful environment, he has so much potential to continue blossoming.
And those ears… really. Need we say more? 🐾💙
