**COURTESY LISTING** Mishka's Story
*COURTESY LISTING* Mishka is not at HSoP. If you are interested in knowing more about her, please contact her current owner at: (310)795-0131, or by email at: st.margelia@gmail.com.

Mishka has been spayed and is up to date on vaccinations, and just had a physical examination in April.

History
Mishka was acquired by her current human caregivers on April 21, 2019 from a craigslist ad. The ad stated that she was a pregnant kitten of unknown age, and the owner was unaware that she hadn’t been spayed before they got her. A vet exam put her age around 6 months old, and confirmed her pregnancy. It was estimated at that time that Mishka had around 4-5 more weeks to go before she would have her kittens. She was vaccinated at this time to (hopefully) give her
kittens some immunity. Nine days later, on May 1st, she woke the humans up yelling frantically around 5:20 am. One of them came and sat on the couch with her, which calmed her down a bit, and she curled up on the sofa with them. It turned out she was in labor, though, and she had the first baby at 5:28 am
in the person’s lap. A second baby came at 7:00, by which time she was settled into her little nest area, and a third kitten came a bit later, but was unfortunately not viable, and passed shortly after birth.

General
Despite getting pregnant before she was 6 months old, Mishka was an excellent and attentive mother to her boys. She still is, and prefers to sleep curled up against them. She will also groom them regularly and play with them. She is especially bonded to Gary, who tolerates her attention better than his brother, who enjoys more independence. Mishka is not just social with her kiddos, though, she also seeks out attention from any human she can find, from the water
heater repair man to guests staying in the spare room where she currently resides. She needs no adjustment period when meeting strangers, she is friends with everyone immediately. Mishka likes to hunt bugs (both real and imaginary), chatter at the birds outside the window, and if she gets the opportunity she loves to grab a crunchy maple leaf from just outside the back door as a
snack. Random bits of vegetable scraps that fall to the floor during cooking also hold a special place in her heart, and she will play with a radish top or bit of green bean for days if we let her. Unlike Thrash, she prefers edible bits of things rather than indigestible wrappers, (compost versus garbage, if you will) but she doesn’t usually actually eat them. She plays with them and cherishes them. In addition to her playfulness and sociable nature, Mishka is also just a genuine sweetheart, all
around. She loves cuddles, making biscuits in a lap, head scratches, and any and all attention she can get. A vocal cat, Mishka will happily chatter back and forth with her human companions, and will “sing along” with someone playing guitar, making “raaa-raaaah-mrraaah-dddrah?” noises, while looking soulfully at whoever is playing. When she is able to, she will climb into the lap of anyone crying. She also responds to her name, so it would be best for her if that stays the
same.

Health
Like Thrash, Mishka weighs 16 pounds, but she has a much smaller frame and is rotund. She is delightfully squishy but needs to lose weight. She is on a diet currently but has not made much progress. She has had urinary crystals in the past which led to a UTI, and needs to be on a urinary diet. Science Diet Urinary Hairball Control food has successfully kept the issue under control and is available at most pet stores, but ideally she should be on the prescription diet that combines urinary care with weight management. (Science Diet c/d urinary health metabolic weight). She most likely has feline herpesvirus in some form but it has never shown itself so it’s unclear what effect it may have on her.

Behavior
Mishka is a joy… Most of the time. However, she is NOT happy to be shut out of her human’s bedroom, despite never once being allowed in there (because she likes to knock everything off the nightstands and dresser, i.e. she’s a CAT.) Every night she complains about this injustice, loudly, at the bedroom door. Her real problematic behavior, though, is that she likes to destroy carpets. She has 4 cardboard scratchers, which she pushes out of the way so she can get to
the carpet underneath. She has a 62” tall sisal rope and carpet cat tree with 4 levels, but she likes what she likes, and she is not ashamed. When a door is opened to the outside she does try to make a break for it sometimes, but since she chatters the whole time, she is always noticed. Still, it’s something to be aware of. The only time she ever urinated inappropriately was when she had a UTI.

Ideal Home
Mishka is very social, and would probably love to be around a big family, or one special person who gives her undivided attention day in and day out. Either way. She is very attached to her son, Gary, and would do best kept together. They frequently cuddle and groom each other. Mishka is exceptionally patient with the toddler human in her current home, and tolerates the small human’s uncoordinated pets and hugs just as she did with her own kittens, even enjoying
them sometimes. She would do fine in almost any home as long as she could get cuddles and head rubs, and stay with her baby Gary. Even though she thinks she wants to go outside, the last time she did that she ended up pregnant. True, she is spayed now, but she has zero street smarts or situational awareness and it is probably best if she stay indoors.

If you are interested in meeting Mishka, please reach out to her current care taker at: (310)795-0131, or by email at: st.margelia@gmail.com. Her current care taker is asking for a $50 rehoming fee and a vet reference.
