Colonel Custard's Story

Colonel Custard is as deliciously sweet as his name implies—though his presence won’t add to your waistline, only to the size of your heart.
He arrived in our care on December 16, 2025, through the capable hands of none other than Southside Sandi, and he quickly made an impression. Estimated to have been born in June of 2022, this big, handsome guy tipped the intake scales at a solid 14 pounds.

Through another rescue service, Colonel Custard initially tested positive for Feline Leukemia Virus. Any cat that has not been tested using an Idexx SNAP test with serum (not whole blood) or had a PCR sent to a reputable reference lab is automatically retested at intake. While FeLV status is never a concern within our rescue, the difference between a positive and negative result can truly be life-or-death for cats who may someday find themselves in facilities where retesting is not routine—and, tragically, where leukemia-positive cats may be given a “shelf life.”

Happily, Colonel Custard tested negative on both follow-up tests. We are incredibly grateful to our generous donors, whose support allows us to pursue whatever diagnostics are needed—no matter what that entails—to ensure our cats receive the most thorough and accurate care possible.

And now for the best part: Colonel Custard is absolutely a dream, the Crème Brulé of kitties, the Flan of felines, the Cream Pie of pussycats. He’s a solid, friendly guy who doesn’t have a mean bone in his body. Laid-back and affectionate, he enjoys being handled, loves lap time, and would thrive in a home—especially one with kids—where he can soak up plenty of attention. Truly, he’s a commanding confection who so deserves a family to call his own.
