CLOUDY's Story
Meet Cloudy, an 8-year-old, 13-lb shorthaired cat who has been through far more than any cat should and is now finally on the path to healing. Cloudy was surrendered to the shelter in November 2025 after being abandoned with a family member of her owner. After a couple of months in that home, she began showing serious medical symptoms: urinating small amounts outside the litter box with blood present, laying on her side or back instead of her usual loaf position, becoming more vocal, and refusing dry food and water. These were clear signs that something was very wrong. At the time of intake, Cloudy was medically stable, but once confined to a shelter kennel, the stress and untreated pain caused her to shut down completely. Initially in the shelter, she was extremely distressed, screaming, swatting, growling, and hissing, even at people simply walking past her kennel. As staff gave her time and space, Cloudy began to show improvement. She settled enough to lie calmly on her cot and quietly observe, and staff were able to enter her kennel to provide care without barriers. A sedated exam finally gave us answers. X-rays revealed bladder stones, which were successfully removed surgically. With her pain addressed, Cloudy’s demeanor improved significantly. Cloudy was placed on the euthanasia list around Thanksgiving due to her medical and behavioral concerns, but thanks to foster support and medical intervention, she now has a real chance at a comfortable, stable future. Potential adopters should be aware of Cloudy’s ongoing needs, including: A prescription urinary support diet long-term Ongoing veterinary care A patient, understanding home as she continues to heal and rebuild trust In her previous home, Cloudy lived with two other cats and children and was reported to do well with both, a reminder that the cat seen in the shelter was a cat in crisis, not her baseline personality. Cloudy is ready for a home that understands that behavior is communication and that healing takes time.
