Claudia's Story

Meet Claudia who was removed along with her daughter Paris, from a horrible hoarding situation in another county. Competing for resources with lots of other cats and living in deplorable conditions until they were rescued and brought to Second Chance. They are now our longest residents having entered Second Chance in November of 2023.

Claudia is a buff/fawn tabby with gold eyes. She is especially lovely but is one who prefers to watch from afar. She will allow you to get close but not yet pet even though she will lick Churu from your finger. She too likes to play a lot and loves lots of interaction. String toys are a favorite and she loves to chase bouncing balls. Claudia will also follow volunteers around while they work, curious and interested in what they are doing.

Claudia is pretty maintenance free. She can live comfortably with other non-aggressive cats, however she seems to prefer male cats over female cats. She uses the litter box with no problem and prefers dry food except she really likes Churu. She does not hiss nor bite, usually she just scampers if she feels threatened.

We know it will be the unique adopter for Claudia. An adopter who will be okay if she does not learn to enjoy human affection in the forms of pets and cuddles but rather in the form of play. The ideal home for her would be a patient and caring adopter who will allow her to adjust at her own pace. She would benefit from a small space initially and a tranquil environment where she can learn to feel secure. We have seen shy cats get adopted and after 2 years the cat is now a lap cat. So, we know change is possible.

Claudia may also be fostered first with the intent to adopt. We would so love to see her find a home of her own and want to make all opportunities available to see this happen. Please email adoption@sccatswm.org with interest.

Claudia has been spayed, vaccinated and microchipped. Claudia has an approximate birthdate of October 2022. Her adoption fee is $95.

If you are interested in Claudia or any of the cats at Second Chance Cats of West Michigan, go to sccatswm.org/adopt to fill out an application, or stop in during open hours on Fridays from 11-2 or Saturdays and Sundays from 11-4.

Please note - we can only adopt to those who live within a one hour drive of Grand Rapids.
