Ciciley's Story

Ciciley just turned ONE, which feels like a pretty good time to mention that she has been in foster care for about six months and is finally ready to go home.

When Ciciley came to us from the Oakville colony, she was incredibly scared and, in true feral-cat fashion, she had decided that the best defense was to make herself a little scary too. Honestly, fair. It worked outside.

Her foster parents, however, had other plans. They have spent the last six months patiently helping Ciciley figure out that humans are not the worst thing ever. And she has made so many milestones along the way. Her foster parents can now pet her AND pick her up, which may not sound particularly exciting until you know where this girl started.

She absolutely loves other cats, especially playful ones, and we're pretty sure having a feline friend will be important for her.

She is also currently learning about brushing because apparently she did not receive the memo that long-haired cats are supposed to participate in their own grooming. She has beautiful, luxurious hair and absolutely no interest in maintaining it.

The best part? We've watched this former feral go from terrified and defensive to actually enjoying being a kitten. She plays, she hangs out with her cat friends, she lets her foster parents love on her.

Ciciley is spayed, vaccinated, F/F negative, and ready for a home that will continue giving her the patience and understanding she needs to keep blossoming.

She doesn't need to be the cat who immediately runs up to greet your guests or demands attention. She just needs someone who understands that trust is a process and who is willing to let her be a little weird about it.

She has spent the last six months finding her footing, now we'd really like to see her find her forever. Preferably somewhere with another cat who is willing to help her cause a reasonable amount of chaos.

Despurate House Cats's Adoption Policy
The application process for adopting from our cat rescue includes several important steps: Application Form on Website: You must fill out an application form available on the rescue's website. This form will ask for your personal details, your home environment, and other relevant information about your lifestyle and preferences to help match you with a suitable cat. Vet Reference: You are required to provide a reference from your veterinarian. This helps the rescue ensure you have a history of responsible pet ownership and good veterinary care for your previous or current pets. Landlord Reference (if leasing): If you rent your home, you will need to provide a reference from your landlord. This confirms that you have permission to have a cat in your rental property and ensures that the living conditions are suitable for adopting a pet. Home Visit: As part of the adoption process, a home visit will be conducted. A representative from the rescue will visit your home to ensure it’s a safe and appropriate environment for a cat. This visit will also include meeting your current pets to assess if they will get along with the new cat. The rescue wants to ensure that the new addition to your family will be compatible with your existing pets and that everyone will feel comfortable and safe. Once all these steps are completed and reviewed, the rescue will make a decision about your application.
