Chubbs (Not Quite Ready Yet)'s Story

This handsome kitty is not currently available for adoption, but just because he isn’t quite brave or comfortable enough to come out of his shell yet doesn’t mean we shouldn’t show off that striking face—or take the opportunity to introduce you to some of our wonderful adoptable residents.

At Crash’s Landing, we believe deeply in allowing each cat to set their own pace. We never force our cats into the spotlight or place them in situations that may trigger fear or stress. Avoiding “fight, flight, or freeze” responses is essential to helping our cats feel safe, respected, and ultimately confident.
Our free-roaming facility is designed with that philosophy in mind. We offer a wide variety of cozy cubbies, tall perches, catwalks, and quiet hiding spots so each cat can choose where they feel most secure and which vantage points best suits them. While we love offering reassuring pets and gentle touches, we understand that many of our Crash Cats have spent years—sometimes a lifetime—on the streets without positive, non-threatening human interaction. For those cats, patience isn’t just important, it’s everything.

Time and time again, we’ve watched timid—and even terrified—cats blossom simply by observing their feline roommates. They learn by watching others accept affection, eventually venturing out for a tentative head rub or a surprise brush of fur against an unsuspecting pant leg. We don’t impose timelines here. If it takes months or even years for a cat to fully settle in and embrace what it means to be part of our community, that’s perfectly okay.

While you’re here, we encourage you to browse through our other Adoptable Pet Listings and read the stories of cats still waiting for their forever homes. You never know whose journey might speak to your heart.
________________________________________
Meet Chubbs
Life has been undeniably hard for this old soul.
Chubbs is estimated to have been born around September 2015 and spent roughly a decade as a feral cat station visitor, looked after by a dedicated caretaker named Bill, amongst several others. When Chubbs’ condition deteriorated to the point where it was clear he needed urgent help, his rescuer took a chance—capturing him and getting him the medical care he so desperately needed.

Chubbs arrived in deplorable condition. His mouth was severely diseased, requiring the extraction of most of his teeth. He also suffered from microphthalmia in his left eye, a condition in which the eye is abnormally small. This caused the eyelids to roll inward and rub painfully against the cornea. Corrective surgery was performed to evert the eyelid and remove excess tissue, preventing further damage and discomfort.

Despite all he’s been through, Chubbs is slowly making progress. Like Babbo, he will likely always be semi-feral. He has one person he trusts—Bill, and only Bill. Bill visits regularly and works with him every day. Just when you think Chubbs might allow a gentle pet, he’ll swat a hand away and issue a clear hissed warning. His boundaries are firm, and we respect them completely.

That said, Chubbs has already surprised us. His progress is slow and deliberate, but it is happening. And knowing cats like Chubbs, he just may fool us all someday.
