Cher's Story
My foster writes: Cher is a beautiful 1.5-year-old black kitty with a gentle, sensitive heart. She's shy at first and may still hiss when unsure, but she has made lovely progress and continues to grow more confident each day.
She's very food- and treat-motivated (the quickest way to win her over!) and has the sweetest affectionate side. When she feels safe - especially if you're relaxing in bed or working quietly - she'll come asking for head scratches, chin rubs, even belly rubs, and loves to sleep near her human.
Cher absolutely adores other cats and needs a feline sibling to feel secure and continue building confidence. In the right calm home with a cat buddy, this little shadow will blossom into a devoted, loving companion.

My foster writes: Little Cher is still a bit unsure of humans-she hisses and sometimes runs to hide when approached (not even directly, just if someone walks in her direction). However, she follows my cat everywhere, and they play tag every day. Even though my resident cat hasn't fully warmed up to her yet, I often find them resting close to each other. Cher also sometimes takes treats from my hand, although she's always very cautious about it. She loves to chase the laser pointer and the teaser wand toys. But above all, she loves having a cat companion.

What my friends at ACC say about me:
I would appreciate slow introductions to new people and places to help me feel safe.
I prefer to call the shots and enjoy coming to you when I'm ready for pets.

Cher tolerates attention and petting but appears fearful or stressed in the shelter. She may be a little more independent, and may need time to warm up to her new home. We recommend that this cat go to a home with experienced cat parents. Due to being under-socialized, contact with young children should be avoided or done under strict supervision so as not to provoke her fear response and further delay her socialization.

A volunteer writes: What makes us different makes us great and Cher's a little different than your average kitten. Of course, she's curious and maybe even playful when she feels comfortable, but comfortable is the key in the sentence and I'm not quite sure the Care Center has brought her much of that. Subsequently, the bright and sparkly characteristics we associate with kittens aren't the ones Cher usually chooses to show us in a conventional style. You see, Cher is usually in the midst of an elaborate game of pretend, which is play! Except that Cher likes to pretend that she's part of the wall. Preferring to huddle up instead of coming to say hello to new friends, Cher is trying to make her way, but she could really use a chance to do that with you.
