Chenille's Story

This pretty girl with the white toes is Chenille. She and her siblings were rescued from a hoarding situation when they were fairly young. Although most of Chenille's siblings were adopted as youngsters, Chenille was diagnosed with Feline Infectious Peritonitis (FIP) so has had to say in our care until now. Fortunately, Chenille not only survived FIP, but she has beaten it and is very healthy now.

Although Chenille was shy as a kitten, she has really blossomed into a fun adult! She's just 1 year old and she's spunky, playful, and affectionate; the perfect trifecta! When Chenille is in a playful mood, she'll either be engaged with a toy, or she's racing from one end of the house to the other at full tilt. However, once it's time to settle down, Chenille is very affectionate and loves her people. She isn't comfortable with children, but she really likes to snuggle with calm adults. She'll rub her head all over their hands and will push the other cats out of the way to hog all of the attention. She can actually be a bit 'smacky' if other cats get too close to her during her 'human cuddle time.'

Chenille has always lived with lots of other cats and has gotten along with them well. However, as she's come into her own, she's a bit more selective about the cats that she'll spend time with. She is not looking for a cat friend who will snuggle with her, but she could do well with a laid back male who gives her space and provides support from the sidelines, or who m ay want to run around with her. However, it will be important that if Chenille has a feline friend, that they aren't the dominant or jealous type - that would be an immediate personality clash. Although Chenille has never been an only cat, she might learn to be Ok with it if her person is home all of the time to provide her with attention.

Chenille is afraid of dogs so needs a dog-free home.

Since Chenille has a very fluffy coat, she will need a family who is willing to groom her regularly to ensure that her fur doesn't get matted. It will be very prone to knots if not cared for properly.

Chenille loves her food and will inhale any wet or dry food that's put in front of her. She's food motivated so using food and treats is a great way to bond with her. However, her calorie intake will need to be monitored to ensure her waistline doesn't get too big. She will need a home with someone who will provide regular, measured feedings; she will not be able to to free-fed.

If you'd like to learn more about Chenille, please visit https://victoriapets.ca/adoption-process/ for more information about the adoption process and for a copy of our online adoption application.

Victoria Pet Adoption Society's Adoption Policy
Adopting a pet is a lifetime commitment and a big responsibility. Dogs can live 15 years or more, and cats can live 20+ years. Like people, each individual pet comes with its own set of baggage, needs, and personality traits. Because your new pet will depend on you to provide its basic needs, we need to be sure that you are educated and up to the challenge. Our adoption process allows us to ask you some questions about your home environment, your lifestyle, and your needs, expectations, and limitations. We want to be sure that your new pet is going to be just as happy in its new home as you are to have it there. A Successful Adoption Process Includes the Following Steps: To start the adoption process, please complete the online adoption application found at https://victoriapets.ca/adoption-process/. If our adoption team feels as though your home will be a great fit for one of our pets they will contact you to set up a visit supervised by the foster parent who can answer some of the questions you may have about the animal of interest. You will not be able to take the pet home the day of the visit. One of our volunteers will contact you after the visit and will open a dialogue with you based on the information provided in your application. We will talk about your home and family, as well as your experience with pets. We will ask you to tell us about the kind of life and care you can offer to the adopted pet, and we will inform you about any health or behavioural issues that you should be aware of. (For dogs only) Once an adoption is pending, we will come visit your home to ensure that the environment is suitable for the pet in question, based on its needs. We can advise you of modifications that could make the adoption more successful, such as fencing and other things you may not have thought about. The adoption process generally takes several days, and this time line is intentional. It allows you time to think about your decision so that you can be sure that you are comfortable with the decision that you’ve made. Adoptions are never approved within 48 hours of the application being submitted. Once we have successfully journeyed through the steps above, you can pick up your new friend to begin a wonderful life together! Signing an adoption contract is a requirement for every pet that is adopted. Adoption Fees are as Follows: Kittens (up to 12 months of age) $400 Adult Cats (1 yr - 8yrs) $300 Senior Cats (9 yrs and older) $250 Special Needs Cats (other than kittens) $250 Puppies (up to 12 months of age) $600 Adult Dogs (1 yr - 8yrs) $400 Senior Dogs (9 yrs and older) $300 Special Needs dogs (other than puppies) $300 Rabbits $50 Guinea Pigs $30 Rats/hamsters $20 Mice $10 Adoption fees for other species may vary
