Cheddar arrived at the shelter after the woman who was taking care of him as a trap and release, realized he had a problem with his eyes. She took him to a vet who diagnosed him with Entropion, a condition where the edges of the eyelids grow inward and irritate the eye. She then took him to a specialist who performed a delicate surgery to correct the condition. By this point, she could no longer bring herself to put him back outside, particularly because he’d become so tame and friendly during the process, but her husband’s allergies prevented them from being able to house him. She is heartbroken and hoping to rehome him with a loving caretaker. We do not anticipate his Entropion to be a factor moving forward. He seems to be a happy, healthy little man once he has settled into his environment. He does have anxiety and can be prone to bouts of hyperventilating if he becomes fearful. This initially concerned us that he might have a heart condition, but our Internal Medicine vet has done a thorough examination of his heart and has determined he is healthy. Because of his anxiety, Cheddar would do best in a quiet household where there weren’t loud noises and sudden changes. He probably would be stressed by dogs and young children. He is learning to get along with the other cats here at the shelter and would not necessarily need to be an only cat. But his new owner will need to be patient and gentle with him.
