Cheddar's Story
How this pet arrived: Cheddar was brought in by a Field Service Officer on September 11, 2026. Why this pet is the one for you:Meet Cheddar, a most precious girl who arrived in our care needing urgent medical attention. Our staff immediately stepped up to start her path to recovery, and she is now searching for a dedicated adopter who is committed to supporting her healing process. If you are coming to meet her, please remember to bring a carrier for her big adoption day. Prior to entering the shelter, Cheddar sustained unknown injuries affecting both front paws. Splinting was performed on her right front leg for severe fractures of the metacarpal bones, and her left front paw is bandaged due to a severe fracture of the fourth toe. To support her recovery, San Diego Humane Society provides ongoing splint and bandage changes free of charge. Adopters should anticipate bandage changes approximately every three days initially, reducing to once weekly as her wounds heal, along with a sedated recheck exam and x-rays scheduled for 10/13. The primary goal is comfort and use of her limbs so she can walk comfortably, though imperfect bone healing may result in an abnormal gait or conformation. Should amputation of the right front leg or left fourth toe become necessary within three months of adoption due to pain or infection, SDHS will provide those surgeries free of charge. Adopters are also welcome to consult a boarded veterinary surgeon for second opinions or additional surgical options at their own expense. Come meet Cheddar and help this resilient companion complete her healing journey. Primary Color: Torbie Secondary Color: White Weight: 3.1lbs Age: 0yrs 0mths 10wks Animal has been Spayed
