Chamoy's Story
Chamoy, a beautiful buff-colored cat born in May 2023, was named after a sweet and spicy condiment. That certainly sums up Chamoy’s personality- sweet and spicy. He’s been with us since May 2025 and during this time, we’ve learned that while we’d still love for him to go home with a loving family and be an indoor cat the rest of his life, it might not be the best fit for his personality (and his occasional tendency to spray in his cat condo). As such, we will also consider Chamoy being adopted out as a Working Cat. Working Cats are those who might not be suited for indoor living, provide an environmentally friendly pest-control for barns, equestrian centers, warehouses, or anywhere that keeps large amounts of grain/food storage. As a Working Cat, post-adoption, Chamoy will require a safe area where he can be confined with food, water, and a litter box for their first 3 – 4 weeks on the property as he needs time to adjust to the sights, sounds, and smells of his new surroundings - to learn that this is his new home - before he is let loose. Even after this adjustment period, he’ll need a warm and dry shelter where he can stay when the weather is bad, a shelter that will be his “home base” for his lifetime. This base is where he’ll come to sleep, drink clean water and eat nutritious cat food (providing daily food will not stop your working cat from catching pests), and use a litter box or other acceptable place for elimination. Importantly, Chamoy will also require a human caregiver responsible for his well-being, including veterinary care, as needed. Working Cats can help keep your rodent/pest population down. All they ask for in return is shelter, food, water and care. Best of all, when you give this cat a job, you’re saving the life of homeless pet who otherwise might not have been suitable for adoption into a home. <br/>To ensure that the environment is the right one for Chamoy as a Working Cat, Home Fur Good will REQUIRE a visit to the location prior to placement to ensure Chamoy will be well cared for in his life as a Working Cat. Chamoy’s Working Cat adoption fee of $50 includes spaying/neutering, age-appropriate vaccinations, tested for FIV/FELV, microchipping, ear-tipping, and a complimentary wellness visit at Phoenix Mountain Animal Hospital. To meet Chamoy and further discuss his Working Cat designation, please call 602-971-1334 to schedule an appointment for any day of the week. Walk-ins are also welcome during our normal adoption hours on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Home Fur Good Animal Rescue is located at 10220 North 32nd Street, just south of Shea Blvd in Phoenix. Please note that Home Fur Good’s stance remains that cats/kittens adopted from our shelter must be indoor-only cats. Chamoy’s situation is the exception in order to provide him a life outside of a shelter.
