Carl's Story

Carl: A tale from two perspectives.

According to his foster mom, Carl's worst trait is that he's a prolific liar. Primarily, "I hate everyone but my brothers and totally don't want your attention..." The occasional scathing look helps sell the act.

It's all part of a tough front he has clung to since being caught as a runty stray kitten who always hid behind his much larger brothers.

These days, reality is different. He'll come up to most anyone with wet food, melts into cuddles, and erupts into purrs the moment he's picked up. He will curl up among your legs at night and be your personal purr-filled space heater. He might try to convince you that he's only doing it for "strategic reasons," but he loves being close with people he loves.

One day he may drop the lying habit. Until then, you can look like a powerful wizard able to charm the cat who gives everyone disdainful stares.

Carl's perspective:

He was living life in the wild, seizing everyday as if it was made solely for him. Suddenly he was captured for some nonsense the giants referred to as "socialization." Thankfully he still had his two larger brothers, his loyal henchmen.

Tragedy struck. As in all classic tales, his brothers slowly fell under the influence of an alluring*, conniving** enchantress***.

How does a hero stay safe when the loyalties of his trusted henchmen are suddenly split?

She was clearly incredibly powerful.** Eventually even brave hero Carl appeared to start succumbing to her dastardly plans. He'd find himself cuddling up against her when she hadn't moved an inch. He had moved TO her!? He made sure to give her many disdainful looks so she knew it was against his will. Those fluffy blankets were probably enchanted!

His own body began to betray him. Aghast, he realized *HE* was the source of the purr he heard during the terrifying times she lifted and gently snuggled him close. There was witchery there... she never picked up his brother who clearly didn't like being picked up, how did she know Carl would suffer such horrors!? How did she know it was his secret weakness?

Carl knew deep in his soul that he had absolutely NEVER wanted to be picked up... So why did he spend so much time trying to clumsily "sneak" past her at exactly the most convenient distance for her to pick him up? He made it clear that the purring was merely coincidental. But she began to notice that the purrs often didn't start until after she scooped him into her arms.

He'd hold out.
He'd be strong.
She might torture him into purring and TOTALLY PRETENDING to enjoy snuggles.
He might sleep curled in the crook of her legs while she naps in order to be near his brothers.

But he would never stop slinking down a fraction when she pet him. He would never give her the satisfaction of knowing he actually enjoyed the petting.

Never.

(...probably.)

Footnotes:
* - She had food
** - She had churu
*** - the food bowl magically refilled

---------
All of our adoptable cats come:

Spay/Neutered
Have at least 2 series of distemper vaccines
Tested for FIV/FeLv
Registered Microchip
Dewormed
Juvenile & Adult Cats (9+ Months) Adoption Fee $100
Kitten (8+ Months & Under) $125

---------
If you have any questions please email:
CommunityCatCrew@gmail.com

You can apply here: Sometimes you have to copy and paste the link.

https://communitycatcrew.org/adoption-application/
