Buddy- Turkish Van's Story

From his current owner: Buddy has a lovely heart on his white hair. He is such a sweet boy to have around. He was quite shy when I got him. Now he is very loving. Very bonded to me. I am sad to rehome him but I am retiring overseas and taking him is not an option. I have had him for 3 years. He is around 5 years old.

Buddy does better with gentle corrections. For example, he has really long and sharp incisors and likes to give love bites and little nibbles when he's overstimulated by too much or too vigorous petting. When he does nibble, I just say, “no biting” and gently put him down. He gets the picture.

He has never bitten me in anger and his nibbles never break skin.

I give him a pedicure every 3 weeks to keep his claws trimmed. I burrito wrap him in a towel but learned the first time that he needs to have his face covered so he feels more at peace during the process. Since then, no incidents. He doesn't love getting wrapped up and face draped for his mani/pedi but he purrs the whole way through (and he knows he has treats coming).

Buddy does well with other cats. His original adoption description said he gets along with everyone, but I can't speak to how he does with pups because I only have cats.

He's a powerful boy and he plays a little rough with my smaller cat but she gives it right back. I always say it's like clouds fighting and it never gets out of hand because they naturally walk away when they are tired of the prey play. Never a knockdown drag out, never hissing or growling, etc.

The cats are bonded with me but not with each other, so I'm ok adopting them out to separate places. Buddy is a sweet, sensitive, funny boy, and so darn handsome!

I give Buddy a few walkabouts per week to get him more used to being handled. I just take him in my arms and show him the shelves, the view from the window etc ;-) then put him down. Other than that, he sits on my propped up legs when I'm on the couch and sleeps at my feet or sometimes under the covers at night.

We are looking for a forever home for Buddy. He is beautiful and loving.
