Bruiser's Story

***Bruiser needs a chill cat as his buddy and life coach. He must go home to a young, friendly cat.

Bruiser came from a large colony that he likely contributed to extensively during the time he spent in it. From the look of him, the living was hard and the fights aplenty. Frost bites, fight wounds or other infections were probable causes of his crimped ears. When the colony caretaker saw a battered and bloodied Bruiser during feeding one day, there was no question that he had to be caught so medical help can be sought.

Bruiser is a resilient cat who overcame big hurdles to be where he is now. The serious head wound was surgically repaired, and after weeks of recovery and attentive care, he is completely healed and now looking for his own forever family.

Bruiser may have a mug that looks fierce, he is anything but! Sure, he is cautious with people as is typical of a cat that lived outdoors, but this gentle soul really craves attention and will nudge your hand for pets. He’ll sit calmly in front of you, purr-fectly happy to receive head rubs, kisses, and head bumps, showing off his adorable fangs in the process. He’s still cautious with belly rubs but loves treats and wet food, great ways to make fast friends with him and cement his trust.

Although Bruiser is shy and used to instinctively hide, his foster mom still manages to get him out for snug cuddles. More and more, he has slowly started staying out in the open, sleeping on his blankets, beds and the cat tree, and staying put even when people enter the room. He is more comfortable exploring his space and making connection with the humans, and this positive progress can be continued with a patient family that can handle his hiding habits, block off tight spots, and encourage him to engage.

Bruiser gets along with other friendly, chill cats who don’t challenge his need for space and can help him to come out of his guarded shell to integrate fully. He has not met a dog, but has had supervised visits with children, and remained non-reactive under their gentle pets. His curious nature is emerging every day, and he shows great promise of playing with toys someday soon. He loves cat videos!

Bruiser would do best with a patient family accustomed to and willing to help a shy cat needing reassurance and time to fully bloom. With a friendly helping paw from a social, easygoing cat as a confidence booster, Bruiser will progress and adjust so much faster. If you’re ready to give a sweet, food-motivated cat a home full of love and cuddles, Bruiser’s your guy!

Would you like to make Bruiser a part of your family? Please complete our online application found at: https://www.avacats.org/adoption-application-form.

Our adoption fees cover vetting and include spay/neuter, age appropriate vaccines (initial FVRCP and rabies), flea treatment, two dewormings and microchipping.

Adoption fees are $250 for each adult cat 1 year or older. Please note that fees may apply for additional required vaccinations (at $75 per booster) due prior to adoption. Total adoption fees will be confirmed by the AVA Adoption Coordinator.
