Brooklyn & Tana's Story

Are you ready to do your good deed for life? Ready for a project? Are you an experienced cat owner looking for a bonded-but-complicated pair who truly need someone special? We’ve got you covered.
You’re probably tired of seeing us post about Brooklyn—trust us, we’re tired too! She STILL hasn’t been adopted. But did you know she came with a friend?
Brooklyn and Tana were wandering the streets together. Brooklyn was picked up after begging for food in a neighbor’s window, while Tana followed behind in horror as her friend got scooped up by a human. Only minutes later, a trap was set for Tana, and she was caught instantly. Their relationship is… interesting. Tana adores Brooklyn. Brooklyn tolerates Tana. Sometimes you’ll find them hanging out; other times, you’ll see Brooklyn giving Tana bunny-kicks to the face—kicks Tana somehow doesn’t seem to mind. We believe Tana would thrive with a buddy, though she needs work and confidence-building. Brooklyn would thrive without a buddy, but could still do fine with Tana in her life with some tweaks and adjustments from her humans.
Tana is a soft-spoken sweetheart with tiny paws and a grumpy little face that hides a heart full of curiosity. She’s still coming out of her shell after life as a stray, but she’s making baby steps every day. Tana is not super trusting yet. It can be hard to sneak in a pet, but when you do, she leans into chin scratches. She relies heavily on Brooklyn’s outgoing nature for comfort and guidance. She’s learning that she doesn’t have to hide anymore—that love, safety, and stability are here to stay.
Tana would thrive in a calm, patient home that will give her time to adjust and show her affectionate side. She’s just getting used to toys and is not used to being held for long periods yet. She used to let Brooklyn steal all her food, but she’s becoming more confident about taking what’s hers. She’s still very new to trusting humans and needs a controlled, secure setup—like a cozy, accessible cat cubby where she can feel hidden but not unreachable. She may do well with another gentle cat who can help show her the ropes of companion life (or being tolerated by Brooklyn). No small children or dogs for this girl.
Brooklyn, on the other hand, is a social butterfly with a big personality and an even bigger appetite. Once a stray, she has embraced indoor life with curiosity, affection, and a touch of mischief. She’s outgoing, vocal, and never misses a chance to charm you out of a snack. Brooklyn loves attention, chin scratches, and following you around—especially if there’s any chance food might be involved.
Brooklyn truly does not like other animals. Even hearing angry cat sounds can put her into fight mode. She’s still learning house rules: she might swipe food off your plate, dig through the trash for a treat, or hop onto the fridge. But with structure, patience, and regular meals, she’s starting to understand she’s safe, loved, and never going hungry again. Brooklyn would do best in a home that can offer lots of interaction, playtime, and clear boundaries. Ideally, she would be an only cat (or coexist with Tana) and in a home without small children.
Brooklyn and Tana were rescued in June and have been searching for their forever home ever since. They do not do well in the shelter, which means they don’t get the adopter traffic they desperately need.
Please help these girls find the people they’ve been waiting for.

Brooklyn in short is chaos and cute, mischievous but fun and full of affection. She has her moments where something sets her off and she lashes out. On days shes particularly on edge, she has some help from her medicine. We believe after she fully gets comfortable the need for that will be less and less. She has already been less crazy (but still crazy haha) about food and has learned to scratch on cardboard scratchers.

Tana is so sweet but so scared and timid. She loves Brooklyn, maybe a little too much, but is always so loving towards her. She enjoys her meals, playing with toys and laying on her cardboard sofa.

Northeast Ohio SPCA's Adoption Policy
We are unable to put our shelter pets on hold. For this reason, we recommend in-state adoptions as we cannot guarantee that the animal will still be available if traveling from another state. All adoption applications need to be completed at our facility. To apply, you must have an occupation and reside in a house, condo, apt, etc. that allows pets. Included in the two-page application is a request for two references. Adoption applications are reviewed the day they are submitted and are typically approved the same day. Adopters are able to take their new pet home immediately after the application has been approved. If the potential adopter already has a dog(s) at home, we recommend a meet & greet for all of our shelter pets.
