Boudi's Story

We are seeking a special home for a senior kitty here at the shelter. Her name is Boudi! She is a 12 year old spayed female that was returned to us recently and it was discovered that she has early stage 1 chronic kidney disease (CKD).
What does this mean?
This means that there are early changes in Boudi’s kidneys that cause them to lose the ability to filter waste and fluids from the blood. This can lead to symptoms of increased drinking and urination, weight loss, bad breath, an unkept look to their fur and in more serious or advanced conditions; lethargy, vomiting, high blood pressure and anemia can occur.
What causes CKD?
There can be many causes of CKD. Age, genetic predisposition, toxins and underlying conditions from other medical issues.
What can be done to help?
CKD unfortunately is a progressive and irreversible disease. However, there are special diets and supportive care that can be done to help maintain a good quality of life.
What she needs:
Boudi needs a home where she can be on a prescription diet specifically for kidneys! She will also need to have an established relationship with a veterinarian to assess her overall health and repeat bloodwork to check in on her CKD progression throughout her life.
At the moment Boudi is doing great and happy! She absolutely adores people and will hop up to sit on your shoulder! She also will chat your ear off about how her day is going. Boudi will need to be the queen bee in her future home due to her being picky about her space and things (she doesnt like to share with other kitties!) Her future adopter will go home with a starter bag of the prescription dry food and a case of wet food that she needs to help support her kidneys.
Please call the shelter directly if you'd like to know more about Boudi or to schedule an apointment
Call 207-395-4274 to schedule an adoption appointment. Friday, Saturday, Monday 8a-2p and Tuesday-Thursday 8a-5p.
