Book's Story

Meet Book!

A graceful six-year-old Domestic Long Hair currently in San Diego, CA, whose fluffy tuxedo coat and whisper-soft voice create an air of quiet charm. This gentle boy carries himself with a calm, observant presence, often found perched by a window or lounging on his cat tree as he watches the world go by. Though shy and a bit aloof at first, Book slowly reveals a deeply sweet and sensitive nature once he feels safe in his surroundings.

Book is wonderfully independent and enjoys batting toys around on his own or chasing the mysterious red dot of a laser pointer! He is not much for string toys, but give him a shadow to examine and you will see his curious side come alive, even if it makes him scamper away in playful uncertainty. He also has a delightful love for liquid treats, and he will happily accept a churu as a peace offering while he builds trust with his new caregiver.

Communication with Book is a special experience. His petite meow is surprisingly soft for his size, and he politely sets boundaries with a gentle paw tap, no claws involved. His expressive tail often tells his story before anything else, making him a wonderfully nuanced companion for someone who appreciates subtle cues. He is compatible with other cats and shows a gentle, protective side around them when he feels unsure with new people, especially while sharing cozy hiding spots.

Book benefits from a calm, predictable environment, as he can become anxious in busy settings or around dogs, which may lead to litter box challenges outside of his safe space. With patience, daily presence, and a peaceful home, he settles more comfortably and feels secure. With time, he blossoms into a loyal and quietly affectionate friend who brings a soothing presence to everyday life.

Could your home be the calm and caring space where Book begins his next chapter?

If you're interested in providing Book with a loving home, please email adopt@joyfulpets.com for more information on adopting him! Please note that Book will remain with his current family until a suitable new home is found for him.

Content Notice: This pet is represented by Joyful Pets. Joyful Pets Animal Rescue's Adoption Policy
At Joyful Pets, our adoption process is designed to create a smooth, supportive experience for both pets and the families who welcome them. We feature pets who are being lovingly rehomed by their current families, as well as adoptable pets from our trusted rescue partners. You can start by browsing our adoptable pets on Petfinder. When you’re interested in a pet, select “Start Your Inquiry” on that pet’s profile to connect with us. If your home aligns with the pet’s needs, we’ll coordinate an introduction with the pet’s current family and arrange a meet-and-greet. Please note that pets listed through our rescue partners follow their own adoption process, requirements, and fees. These details are provided directly by the rescue. For pets rehomed through Joyful Pets’ direct rehoming program, adoption fees currently start at $150 for dogs, $95 for cats, and $50 for birds, rabbits, ferrets, or other small pets. When helpful, we may also offer a foster-to-adopt trial period so families and pets can ensure a great match before finalizing the adoption. We’re grateful that you’re choosing adoption and giving a pet the opportunity to join a caring family. Our goal is to make the process clear, joyful, and well-supported, with resources available every step of the way.
