Bogie's Story

Meet Bogie, a confident and affectionate cat with a big personality! Adopted as a kitten through ARPO, he was recently returned due to family health issues and is now searching for his true forever home.

Bogie enjoys the energy of a lively householdhe lived comfortably with active teens and previously got along well with a small dog. He might enjoy the company of a playful, respectful dog with proper introductions, though he would also be quite content as your one and only. Bogie would do best in a home with no kids under 12. He spent most of his life in a home without other cats so a feline free home is recommended. He is very fearful of storms and fireworks.

This handsome boy is obsessed with his fishing pole toy and eagerly anticipates daily playtime. He has perfect litter box manners and loves to lounge on lapshis favorite place to be when his foster mom sits down. He enjoys having his back petted and scratched and will reward you with purrs and happy biscuit-making. Hes comfortable meeting strangers and soon hell be rubbing against your legs, asking for attention.

While Bogie has many affectionate qualities, he does have boundaries and needs an experienced cat owner who understands feline body language. Hes currently enrolled in a vet-recommended behavioral training program to reduce nipping, particularly around his face. Hes already making great progresshe rarely nips at pant legs now and is less reactive to hands near his head. He does not mind being picked up or carried and, as cats go, he is easy to put in a carrier. He enjoys being brushed but can easily get overstimulated and will let you know.

As part of his training, Bogie is learning positive reinforcement techniques and has mastered sit and target (touching an object with his nose for a treat). He sits with verbal or visual hand cues. Hes incredibly smart and benefits from enrichment activities that challenge and engage him. Target training in particular helps make handling less stressful and builds trust.

Bogies birthday is July 24, 2019. If youre looking for a loyal, intelligent companion with a bold personality and a heart full of potential, Bogie might just be the one for you.

If you are interested in adopting an ARPO pet, please visit our website at arporescue.org to learn more about our adoption process and complete our adoption application. ARPO limits adoptions to within 50 miles of Indianapolis. We do not have a shelter; all pets are in volunteer foster homes.

Alliance for Responsible Pet Ownership, Inc - ARPO's Adoption Policy
ARPO does not have a shelter or physical location. All pets are in foster care. Potential adopters must fill out the Adoption Application. An phone or e-mail interview and home visit are required and does not guarantee adoption. We use these as a tool to make a match for both the adoptive family and the pet. Because home visits are done by a member of our all volunteer staff, we limit this to a 50 mile radius of Indianapolis. Lastly, before taking your new companion, a contract must be signed, including the provision that the adopter will provide quality food, shelter, and medical care. You may follow us on Facebook at www.facebook.com/adoptarpo/ to find out when and where our next adoption events, fundraisers, success stories, as well as hints and tips in pet care.
