Big (Courtesy Post)'s Story

Meet Big — A Sweet Soul in Search of Safety, Love, and a Soft Place to Land

Big is a sensitive, soulful cat with a big heart and an even bigger desire to be close to his person. He’s 4 years old, has a healthy appetite and loves to, "Sit, Biggie! Sit.....GOOD BOY, Big!", for treats, or even just a proud smile.

He is obsessed with laser pointers, and finds rambunctious kitten-like bliss with crinkly toys and chasing anything attached with a string.

Some history on our beautiful panther boy:

Big was once adopted into a home where he bonded deeply with his adoptive mom. It may have been love at first sight, truly, and the new family of three was so happy....

A devastating incident occurred about a month later, though. Big's adoptive dad, a very tall human, who stood over 6’4" accidentally dropped him from this height, and he landed onto his back. Big wasn’t physically injured, but emotionally, everything changed.

He began hiding whenever his mom left for work, too afraid and overwhelmed to be around dad, who worked from home.

As Big's once-bright spark continued to dim, his mom heartbreakingly realized he wasn’t thriving. And wanting the very best for him, she made the painful decision to return him to his foster home.

Since returning, Big had also experienced stress being reintroduced to his foster home, and as a result, began occasionally peeing outside of his litter box.

While this is not an everyday situation, the behavior is clearly exacerbated on days when he appears more stressed, or anxious.

We have taken him to our beloved vet on several occasions, to rule out any potential medical reasons for the outside of litter box urinating. With a clean bill of anything 'medical', we now know that Big, like so many of us on this earth, is not excluded from the myriad of ways trauma can manifest in our bodies.

We absolutely believe that with the right person (s), the right environment, and of course, Love, Big will recover, and return to the joyful, affectionate cat we first rescued.

What Big Needs:

• A quiet, calm home with or without other pets (slow, gentle introductions with new animal friends will be key).

• A human who is home often—working remotely, or part-time would be ideal.

• An experienced pet person who is patient, kind, and understanding, gifting Big the chance to rebuild trust with humans, as he remembers how to trust himself.

• The safety of an indoor space, with the option for supervised outdoor time. Big has been working on his confidence level when on leash. He enjoys the fresh air and sunbeams while lounging in a cozy catio just outside the laundry room.

Big could spend hours by your side, curling up or sprawling out to his full-length, just to keep you company.

He’s not a lap cat, but he is a deep companion—loyal, loving, and quite comfortable asserting his agency when he needs to tell you something. :)

If you’re looking for a meaningful connection with one special kitty, Big just might be your guy.

Big is being cared for by a member of the community.
