BETTY's Story
Happy Fall! The calendar might say we are in the "ber" months, but the temperatures are still warm! That means we are still struggling through kitten season. We desperately need to make room to get Moms, kittens and other cats in and fixed before the cold comes. Please consider adopting! And tell your friend to adopt too! We still have lots of kittens and some of our older cats have been here awhile, so there is a cat for everyone!! Remember,
adopting saves TWO cats lives! Adopting one cat will free up a cage so we can help another. Together we can make countless more cats & kittens lives better. Win! Win! The kitties thank you too!

This is Betty!
Betty is domestic long haired black and white tuxedo, spayed female, up to date on her shots, around 5 years old and available for adoption to be an indoor ONLY cat from Griffith Animal Control/ Treasured Friends Rescue in NWI.

Hi, I'm Betty!
I was living outside last winter, in the cold, with my two kittens. It was hard finding food and my kittens were always hungry. It would snow and be very cold but somehow we all survived. One day I went looking for food and luckily I found a nice human who started feeding my me and my babies everyday. I was so happy we finally had food but one day my two kittens and I were in a cage! I was very scared but fortunately we were taken to the shelter where other kitties were. At first I wasn't really happy, but my kitten really needed to be warm and get good food but I was still cautious. Finally my kittens got a home, but I'm still at the shelter. I'm still a little unsure and shy around humans. I like humans and I'll get close to them and sometimes a quick pet is okay but I'm still uneasy around people- especially new people. I do love other kitties ALOT! I've never met a kitty I don't get a long with! I love to play and I'm used to this new indoor life! I don't want to go back outside! I think I need some one on one time with a person to develop a real bond. That's not possible at the shelter, it's always different people coming and going, dogs barking and loud noises. I need a person that will give me time to settle in with them and to be patient with me while I got used to my new life. I think if someone would give me a chance, then I would trust them and I could let my guard down and be a kitty again!
I'm waiting for the right person who can give me that and be patient with me.
I promise to be a good friend and sweet companion and maybe even a lap kitty someday.
I know I'm not a kitten anymore. I know I'll be passed over for being shy AND for being older but I'm still hoping someone is willing to give me a chance. I still want to be loved and cared for and have a real home too!
I'm at the shelter now, so please come by to see me! I like other kitties, so a home with another kitty (with the proper introduction) would be the best! Since I'm shy, I could be friends with your kitty and they will help show me people are okay. I would definitely be a good companion for your kitty, because I love playing with and sleeping by other kitties. I think a quiet home would help me feel safe, so I probably would be best in a home without dogs or kids, but other kitties are a must!
If you have patience, time and would love to help a kitty really needs a home, I hope you'll consider me! I'll always be there for you and will can be friends forever !!

Please call 219-922-1766 and leave a message to meet Betty!
Betty will not be a "normal" kitty when you take her home. She will need time to adjust and will need to be in her own room for awhile so you can establish a routine with her to gain her trust. If you want to meet her, we can give you tips on helping her ease into becoming part of your family Please consider this in your decision because it would set her back trusting humans to be returned. She needs someone who will really be there for her. If that is what you are looking for, please fill out an adoption application which can be found online at TreasuredFriendsRescue.org or follow the link from our profile at Petfinder!

****************************************
Griffith Animal Control, in partnership with Treasured Friends Animal Rescue believes in giving kitties that others wouldn't give a chance, a helping hand at getting a forever home. Our volunteers work with shy and/or unsocialized kitties everyday to gain their trust to show them they are safe and no one will hurt them. However, when the kitties go to a new home, some will require extra time to get used to new surroundings and different people. Please consider giving a kittie who might need a little time to get used to a new home, a chance. This is a serious commitment and it sets the kitties back in their level of trust if they are given up after a few weeks or months. We are always here to help with any questions Please, only apply if you are an experienced cat owner or are willing to provide patience and good forever home.
Thank you!
