Meet Betsy
Betsy is quite beautiful, but also quite feisty. Actually, she is 10% sweet with 90% "quit petting me or I'll bite you." As you can imagine this makes finding her the right home quite challenging. We have recently sent her back in to foster with her original rescuer so we can see how she does in a less stressul/cat packed environment.
Betsy came into shelter life after a traumatic leg injury. We are unsure if she was hit by a car or something else, but her rescuer gave her everthing she needed before coming in to the center. She had a cast for her front leg and even laser treatments for the nerve damage. Despite treatment, she does not put weight on her front leg most of the time. She occasionally uses it for balance and for swatting. Sometimes she is playing and swatting at a toy, as she does love to play with wands and chase balls. Other times, she uses her damaged leg to swat other cats if they get too close to her, or to swat people when she has had enough attention. It's kind of bizarre, because she often begs for attention and comes right up to you, rubbing on your leg. You reach down to pet her and she loves it for 2-3 strokes, then she swats or bites for you to stop.
We do want to consider that she had a traumatic injury that caused nerve damage and likely nerve pain, but the vet did not feel she needed an amputation. So we want to be upfront on Besty and her needs.
Betsy would prefer to be an only cat, or at least in a home with few where there is plenty of room for her to have her own space and litter box. She does fine around the other cats, but tends to be the dominant one in a room with so many. She needs to go to a home without kids and with a cat savvy person who understands the quirks of cat behavior and that Betsy is a calico with a tramatic past.
Yes, we are asking a lot, but we want to do what is best for Betsy and know that she is not safe to live the life of an outdoor cat due to her injury.
Besty is only 1 year old and has been at the center since July 2022.
We're open Wednesday - Sunday 12 - 5 p.m but are doing meet & greets and adoptions by appointment only.
The adoption fee is $50 which includes a free veterinary exam within 2 weeks of adoption at local participating vets, up to date vaccinations, test for FELV/FIV, dewormer, flea preventative, microchip, & spay or neuter.
