Bernard's Story

Bernard came to us from a complicated 17 cat neglect situation, and immediately decided that he loves human companionship. He’s picky about how he wants to be pet, and will gently tell you if you’re doing it “incorrectly,” and because of this we think a home with no young kids is best. His perfect day consists of following you around with big rumbly purrs, and sitting next to you wherever you settle in.<br/><br/>And that cute floppy ear? He has a previous history of ear infections, so he likely has this signature flop forever. He might be prone to ear infections in the future, but he’s been happily in the clear for a while now! Bernard is okay with other cats, but will give you the saddest face in the world if you’re petting someone more than him, and we think he’d be his Best Self as a solo guy.<br/><br/>Every PALS cat and kitten has been spayed/neutered, microchipped, tested negative for FeLV/FIV and is up-to-date on vaccinations. A note about kittens: if you are adopting a kitten, they may need to complete their FVRCP (distemper) series and may not be old enough for their rabies vaccination. These essential vaccines will be the responsibility of their new owner. Detailed vet records and a calendar of vaccination due dates will be provided.<br/><br/>The PALS Adoption Center, located inside PetSmart at 10 Traders Way in Salem, MA (just off Highland Ave/Rte 107) BY APPOINTMENT ONLY TO APPROVED ADOPTERS. Adoption applications can be found online at www.palscats.org. A completed application is not necessarily an approved application. We do ask for written landlord approval if you rent, or proof of home ownership (water bill, etc.) We will also check your vet references. You will be contacted by our adoption staff once your application has been approved. Please note it can take up to 48 hours.<br/><br/>Our online sites are updated regularly, but we can not guarantee that a cat you see here is still available. Please email if you have any questions regarding the adoption process or our available cats and kittens. PALS is an all-volunteer, no-kill rescue group. PALS Animal Life Savers's Adoption Policy
The goal of our small but dedicated group is to find appropriate homes for our locally rescued cats and kittens. Our Adoption Counselors spend many hours with the cats and are able to help you find the perfect match. They will help suggest a cat based on factors including your home, family, interests and lifestyle. Each situation, adopter, and cat requires a different approach and while we reserve the right to refuse an adoption, we always make every effort to work with you to address concerns or find the most appropriate feline companion. As a potential adopter, the first step in the process is to complete an adoption application. Applications are available outside our Adoption Center or online through our website, www.palscats.org. This form will provide us with information about yourself and your household to help facilitate the match-making process, so be specific about the type of cat you are looking for. Please make sure that you are: - At least 21-years of age - In possession of a valid photo ID - Financially able to take care of a feline companion. This includes both routine and emergency veterinary care, food, and litter Some things we may need to discuss or verify before you adopt: RENTERS: Please be sure your landlord will consent to have the cat on his/her property. We verify this information with landlords before sending a new cat home, so please have your landlord’s name and phone number available, or bring in a signed letter of consent. HOMEOWNERS: Please provide proof of home ownership (i.e. tax bill, mortgage statement, deed). Some towns allow verification of home ownership via an online database. We can try that if you don’t have documentation with you. OTHER PETS IN YOUR HOME: All of your pets need to be up-to-date on vaccinations. Please bring documentation with you. Alternatively, we may be able to verify this by calling your veterinarian. Note: Many vet offices are closed on weekends and some require client consent before releasing any information. When your application is complete, you can submit it online or drop it off at our Adoption Center on Saturday or Sunday, or you can slip it under the door of the Adoption Center if no volunteer is available. Once received, we will review your application, check references, and contact you within 48 hours with any questions.
