Beret's Story

Meet Beret, the sweetest little fashionista still waiting to find her forever home!

Beret is one of the last two kittens remaining from an adorable litter of six, all named after different hats (because their lovely mama, Hattie, had to start a trend!). While her mama and most of her siblings been adopted, Beret is still patiently waiting for someone to choose her. And trust us... she's worth choosing.

Beret may not have eyes, but she navigates the world in her own beautiful way. Because she's blind, she relies on her other senses, especially her sense of touch and sound, to navigate her surroundings and connect with her people. She's incredibly adaptable and learns her environment quickly. Once she knows where everything is, she moves around with confidence. She also has a unique way of communicating. Since she can't rely on visual cues, Beret sometimes uses her mouth to explore, express herself, or get your attention. It's simply how she processes her world! Because of this, she needs a patient and understanding adopter who recognizes that this behavior is part of how she communicates and is willing to lovingly guide her as she continues to grow.

Beret would do well in a home that can offer consistency and compassion. If there are children in the household, they must be cat savvy kids. We define a "cat savvy kid" as a child who can demonstrate how to approach and interact with cats safely, shows awareness of feline body language and behavior, and uses safe, gentle handling skills.
Despite her challenges, Beret is playful, affectionate, and full of personality. Once she bonds with you, she'll happily curl up beside you, like your own tiny beret perched cozily in your lap instead of on your head! If you're looking for a special kitten with a big heart and an even bigger story, Beret is ready to complete your family puzzle.

Nashville Humane Association's Adoption Policy
The adoption process at NHA is friendly, educational and rewarding! Animals come to us looking for a forever home, and we make certain to give them their best shot. All animals in our Adoption Program, while at NHA, receive spay/neuter surgery, vaccinations, and veterinary treatment. And of course, lots of love! Now, it's your turn to love them forever. Noticing that we use the word "forever" a lot? Well, it is really important to us that our pets find a permanent home! Therefore, adoption applicants are carefully screened and must meet adoption requirements prior to taking your new furry friend home. Adoption Requirements: •Be 18 years of age or older •A picture I.D. showing your present address •The knowledge and consent of your landlord (if applicable) •Ability to spend time/money necessary to provide training, medical treatment, and proper care for a pet. IMPORTANT: The Nashville Humane Association reserves the right to refuse adoption to anyone. No animal will be adopted to prospective owners who mislead or fail to provide accurate information on the application. Now here comes the hard part. Visit with our wonderful cats and dogs and try to pick just one! NHA Pet Service Representatives are available to provide advice on selecting the best match for you and will schedule a Meet & Greet between family members (including those with four-legs) and your prospective pet to help you determine which animal will best accept your lifestyle. The next step is to fill out an Adoption Application. After the staff reviews and approves your application, it's on to a visit and then signing the adoption contract, paying the fee, and taking your new lucky cat or dog home!
