Her Latin name translates directly to "female warrior" or "warrioress".<br/>(But her friends call her Belly or Bells!)<br/><br/>If resilience had a face, it would be Bellatrix.<br/><br/>Belly's story began with heartbreak. She was found on the side of a road, dragging her back legs, and had likely been struggling to survive that way for 2-3 weeks before help arrived. At first, it was believed she had been hit by a car. But after extensive veterinary care and diagnostics, we learned something even more shocking: Bellatrix had been shot with a real bullet in a residential area. Miraculously, the bullet missed her spine. However, the impact, heat, and shrapnel damage caused enough trauma to leave her paralyzed.<br/><br/>Since then, Belly has been given every opportunity to heal. She has undergone neurological consultations, physical therapy, and acupuncture treatments. Today, she is at her very best, and we've done everything medically possible to help her regain function.<br/><br/>Bellatrix has no pain and no feeling in her hind end. She has slight movement in her back legs and tail, and she is able to poop on her own, although she cannot feel when she needs to go and therefore doesn't use a litter box for bowel movements.<br/><br/>Her bladder needs to be expressed 2-3 times daily, which she is incredibly cooperative for. Due to a history of crystal buildup, she eats prescription urinary food along with high-quality wet food. A penned area for sleeping and diaper-free time works best for her. When expressed properly, she does not leak urine, but diapers help protect her from infection and skin irritation caused by dragging.<br/><br/>We know the words paralyzed and incontinent can sound intimidating at first. The truth is, Belly's daily routine is often much easier than people imagine. Once you learn how to express her bladder and settle into a schedule, it quickly becomes second nature. In many ways, she's still easier than a dog with no early morning walks, no standing outside in the rain, and no freezing through winter potty breaks! Like any pet, she simply needs someone committed to her routine. And once you get the hang of it, caring for her becomes just another part of daily life, while the love and companionship she gives back are truly priceless.<br/><br/>While these are the basics of her care, we're always happy to discuss her routine in greater detail with potential adopters.<br/><br/>Now for the best part: her personality. Bellatrix is truly one of the sweetest cats we've ever met. She is incredibly affectionate, loves to cuddle, and has a gentle, submissive nature that makes everyone instantly fall in love with her. <br/><br/>When she's excited, especially at mealtime, she lets out the cutest little silent meows. Despite her disability, she gets around well and doesn't let anything stop her. She loves toys, enjoys exploring, and has even been known to climb onto a small cat tree and hang there with all 10 toes in the air.<br/><br/>She has the most expressive eyes reminiscent of Puss in Boots' famous sad look (if Puss happened to be a tabby). But don't let those eyes fool you. Bellatrix isn't sad at all. In fact, she's one of the happiest, most joyful cats we've ever known.<br/><br/>She doesn't spend her days wondering what happened to her. She spends them looking forward to cuddles, snacks, toys, and the people she loves.<br/>Bellatrix is looking for someone special someone willing to see beyond her disability and recognize the incredible cat she is. In return, she'll give you endless love, trust, and inspiration every single day. <br/><br/>*Belly travels very well. She would love going on trips and vacations if needed. <br/><br/>All cats/kittens are spayed/neutered, rabies/FVRCP vaccinated, dewormed, microchipped, flea treated, and FIV/FeLV tested negative.
