Beaker's Story
Beaker arrived at our shelter as a scared five-month-old kitten in August 2025. He was found after living his kittenhood in a hotel parking lot. In November, Beaker wasn’t acting himself. His fur looked unkempt; he didn’t want to play with toys, nor would he eat. Beaker’s bloodwork looked fine, other than his AG Ratio being 0.2, which indicated that he had a serious illness called Feline Infectious Peritonitis (FIP). Shortly after getting Beaker’s results, we started him on meds. The medication worked so quickly! Within a day, Beaker was eating on his own, his coat changed in a few days, and he was back to playing within the week. The treatment for FIP requires meds for 84 days (12 weeks) with blood work being rerun a week prior to the meds being complete. Beaker’s bloodwork came back perfect, and his AG Ratio was up to 0.8 (anything over 0.5 is normal). Beaker will be happy to go back to playing and meeting new friends in our Kitty Kottage and to being a “real” kitty again. His vet has cleared Beaker to begin the search for his new home. He is currently 10 months old, and while he is shy around new people, he is the sweetest boy. He loves to be held like a baby or up on your chest with his paws on your shoulder. He is also very playful and does well with other cats (yes, he can live with them). Our sweet Beaker would make a very special companion!
