Just a teenage mama herself, tiny and heartbreakingly thin, she gave birth to her babies in a plastic storage tub that kind neighbors placed outside so shed have something to curl around them. They fed her when they could. They tried to keep her safe. But it wasnt enough.

When her kittens were only a week and a half old, the apartment manager announced that the cats had to be removed immediately... or he would take care of it himself.

Residents panicked. They hid Bambi and her babies. They called us crying. And we ran — literally ran — to get her.

We found a tiny brown tabby with a speckled back, trembling but still wrapped around her kittens, refusing to leave them even for a moment. She was terrified, exhausted, and still fiercely protective. But she let us pick her up. She trusted us. And she saved her babies.

Today, Bambi is safe in her foster home. She is still a little spicy — she has spent her whole young life defending her kittens — but she is also deeply loving, gentle, and grateful. She leans in for affection. She chirps softly when she sees her foster family.
