Babs (Bonded to Larry)'s Story

Meet Larry and Babs!

AGE AT ARRIVAL: Approximately 12 weeks old
ARRIVAL DATE: August 16th, 2025
GENDER: Neutered Male and Spayed Female
ADOPTION FEE: $350 for the pair
NOTES:
A shelter in Collingwood reached out to us for help with two kittens with cerebellar hypoplasia. You know we can’t say no to the wobbly ones! Cerebellar hypoplasia (CH) is a condition where an infection causes a pause in the unborn kitten’s brain development, specifically to the area called the cerebellum, which is responsible for coordinated movement and balance.
Thankfully we have a foster home who is very experienced with CH kittens, and the shelter was kind enough to transport the kittens to Hamilton. Larry and Babs arrived to their foster home without issue and they settled right in.
Babs’ CH is more pronounced than Larry’s and she tends to tip over a lot more than he does. But both kittens are very playful and happy. They don’t know that they’re not “normal” kittens, and they try to do all the kitteny things as best they can. CH cats can live long, happy lives. They just need a few adjustments to their environment to keep them safe.

At their vet visit, Babs and Larry were both were given a clean bill of health. They’re now ready for their forever home! We are asking they be adopted as a pair.

Here’s a note from their foster family:
“These two litter mates are wonderful, happy little kittens just living life large! They both love to play, eat, torment (in a loving way) the resident cats in the foster home. They are very, very happy cats as you can see in the videos.
Both Larry and Babs love to purr – as my mechanic husband likes to describe them – their drive train and suspension is a little wonky, but their purr motors put out extra horsepower!

Larry can move around quite well with his condition, he can even jump…sort of! He has no issue drinking water, eating out of a bowl (wet or dry). He can knock some kibbles out of the bowl but always tries to clean up his mess. As for the litter box, he uses it no problem and likes to do his song and dance. He does fall in it from time to time but this does not affect his cleanliness.

Babs is more affected by the CH. She is only able to take a few steps before falling over. But this little girl has drive and determination and she always gets to where she needs to be. Feeding time for Babs is far from normal. She eats her wet food out of a bowl and does a pretty good job with it…it just takes her a bit longer than a regular kitten. She may need her food “fluffed” up a bit as she has trouble licking the bottom of the bowl. As for kibbles I have been feeding her on a towel. She pecks at her food and on the towel it doesn’t move around as much.
Babs will fall over in the litter box. At this time she lays down to do her business. Keeping a very clean litter box will be important. She is a very clean kitty and will bathe herself if she gets a little messy.
I believe in time Babs will be able to adapt to her condition. I saw it with my girl Pinball (who is now 10yrs old). Being a kitten everything is full tilt, but as she becomes a bit less excitable she may not be as bad. It is preferable that these cats not have access to stairs. Navigating stairs could possibly result in injury. It is also advisable that there be carpet in their new home. It does not need to be wall to wall, but area rugs and runners will help with their traction.
These two adorable kittens will bring so much love and joy into a home. They are friendly, funny, furry and fabulous!
Any questions about these two or living with a CH kitty, please do not hesitate to reach
out!
Special people adopt special kitties!”

Please adopt Larry and Babs!
Visit our website to apply:
ladybirdanimalsanctuary.com
