Autumn's Story
Meet Autumn, Turbo & Nitro!

Mama Autumn and her two little orange boys, Turbo and Nitro, have spent the last several weeks growing, changing, and showing us more of who they really are — and it's been pretty wonderful to watch.

Autumn is a calm, wise little soul who seems to take life in stride. We suspect she had already seen quite a bit of life before coming into rescue, and from the beginning, she handled motherhood and all the changes around her with remarkable composure.

But now her babies are growing up, Autumn has been spayed, and we're finally getting to meet Autumn the cat instead of Autumn the mama.

And we really like who we're seeing.

She's becoming more curious and comfortable every day. The girl who once simply accepted petting is now rubbing against her foster mom and hanging around asking for more attention. She's exploring more, retreating less, and discovering that retirement from motherhood has some definite advantages.

Autumn is still a thoughtful girl who appreciates having a cozy spot of her own where she can relax and observe the world. She'll likely do best with a patient family who gives her a little time to settle into a new home and lets the relationship develop naturally. She's comfortable around other cats and may enjoy a friendly feline companion. Dogs make her a little nervous, so a calmer home without one may be her preference.

And then there are the twins.

Turbo and Nitro are about as close to identical as two orange brothers can get — gorgeous classic tabbies who are almost always found together in one tangled pile of orange fluff.

Nitro earned his name by being the first to do just about everything. He's the slightly bigger brother and was the early adventurer of the pair — active, curious, playful, and always ready to climb. Nitro recently suffered a corneal scratch to his left eye and has some scarring, and at this point we aren't yet sure how much vision he has in that eye. It hasn't stopped him from being an active little kitten, although the experience understandably made him a bit more cautious about being picked up for a while. As he's recovered, he's becoming more comfortable again.

Turbo apparently missed the memo about his name at first because while Nitro was busy conquering milestones, Turbo preferred to sleep in. These days he's making up for lost time. He's playful, active, easy to handle, and an enthusiastic climber — particularly if the available climbing structure happens to be his foster mom. Bend over at your own risk; Turbo considers human backs perfectly acceptable kitten furniture.

Both boys are learning how nice human affection can be, and they're curious about the dog they can see through their foster-room gate, although they haven't had direct dog experience yet.

And one thing about these brothers is very clear:

Turbo and Nitro adore each other. They're rarely seen sleeping separately, preferring to curl up in one ridiculous orange heap after they've finished playing.

Autumn has done her job beautifully. Her boys are growing up, and now all three are getting ready for the next chapter — Turbo and Nitro for a lifetime of adventures, and Autumn for a very well-earned retirement from motherhood.

Everybody loves kittens, and it's easy to see why! Kittens four months old or younger are only adopted out in pairs or to homes that already have a friendly, playful resident cat. Young kittens simply do not thrive in isolation, and we do not make exceptions. If you're looking for a single cat, please look to our older kittens, teens, or adults. They're wonderful companions and fully ready to be your one-and-only.

All of the Sweet Paws animals are loved a great deal by their rescuers, fosters, and the volunteers who've cared for them along the way. Your kitten will be up to date on appropriate vaccinations by adoption day, but please keep in mind that kittens require multiple routine vet visits throughout the course of their first year. Sweet Paws is staffed by volunteers, and processing applications is time intensive; therefore, we ask that you only submit an application if you are fully committed to adopting.
