Astro's Story

For Astro, the best place in the world is wherever you are. This extremely loving 6-year-old gray-and-white cat found himself back with Cat Action Team after losing his family, and he was heartbroken. It took his foster nearly two weeks just to be able to pet him. But trust built, and this amazingly brave boy began to let his personality shine through.

In a new home, Astro will likely need time to come out of his shell and may hide under the bed or only come out at night. His adopter must be prepared to let him set the pace. Our advice is to be patient, because he's worth the wait.

Once he trusts you, Astro is a total love bug. He adores being petted, and if you tell him he's handsome, he'll roll around and purr. He doesn't mind being picked up and cuddled, and when he's comfortable in his surroundings, he'll even let strangers pet him.

When Astro is stressed, he has a history of developing urinary crystals that have led to urinary blockages. His biggest source of stress seems to be other cats, whether neighborhood cats staring at him through a window or resident cats who aren't the right fit. He doesn't hiss or growl at other cats, but he may spray to mark his territory when he feels unsettled. For that reason, we believe he'll do best as an only pet in a calm home where he can have his human(s) all to himself.

Astro is looking for a fresh start in a peaceful foster or adoptive home where he can enjoy the closeness he loves. His wish list is simple: someone who works from home or is retired and around often, a great window for watching the world go by, and catnip toys to pounce on when it's time to play. Most of all, Astro wants company, a person who welcomes him nearby through the day and lets him curl up beside them at night.

Astro's urinary health needs will last his whole life, so his adopter must be financially prepared to cover his prescription food and ongoing veterinary care. He has already lost one family, and he deserves a person who will make a true lifetime commitment and stand by him through everything.
