Apple's Story

Hi… my name is Apple

I’m one year old, and I’m very pretty—even if I don’t quite know how to show it yet.

Life hasn’t been easy for me. I came from a hoarding situation, surrounded by chaos and far too many kittens. I was still just a baby myself, but I became a mama anyway. I did my best. I loved my babies, fed them, cleaned them, protected them. I was a good mama in those early days—but the stress and exhaustion caught up to me. It was too much for such a young heart, and eventually I had to be separated so I could finally rest.

I’ve been through more than any one-year-old should have to endure.

Because of all that, I’m scared. I am learning to trust. I haven’t learned yet that hands can be gentle and that quiet can be safe. But underneath the fear is a girl who wants to feel safe, who wants to believe that life can be soft. I need time. I need patience. I need someone who won’t rush me or give up when I don’t immediately know how to love back.

And guess what… they have just let me be cage free and I can tell you I’m already so much happier. And you know what makes me feel really safe and happy, is another friendly cat. You can see me cuddling with this new male cat I made immediate friends with, so I think I would really love to be in a home that has another friendly cat. He got adopted but I think I’d do great with another friendly gentle cat. A little buddy who can show me how to learn to trust and learn and to open up. . If it’s a male that’s even more perfect, but it makes me feel safe and secure and I enjoy cuddling with a feline, buddy. I am spayed, and fully up to date on my vaccines.

On paper, I’m “ready.” In my heart, I’m still healing., But I’m coming around and with time and patience. I know I’ll be that loving girl that my heart so wants me to be.

I dream of a quiet home, a calm presence, someone who believes that I’m worth waiting for. Someone who understands that my true, loving self is still there—it just doesn’t feel safe enough to come out yet.
If you can see past my shy timid eyes , and feel patience and love from my story…
If you can give me the time and patience I was robbed of…
I promise, believing in me might be the most beautiful thing you ever do.

For more information and instructions on how to apply, please visit https://thepetrefuge.org/adopt/.
