Anisette (sweet and shy floof)'s Story
Anisette is such a dear. She showed up one day in January 2026 in a managed cat colony in Camp Hill, and the caretaker trapped her and got her fixed. The caretaker noticed that Anisette was very quiet and calm, but obviously scared. We decided to give her a chance in a foster home to see what her personality was like. It took a couple days, but Anisette started purring when she was petted. She was still too cautious to approach people, even at meal time, but she eventually she felt comfortable enough to hang out in nearby windowsills and on the bed when her foster parents were in the room. One day, she seemed to flip a switch and she started meowing at the door of her room when she knew her foster parents were coming with food, and she started wanting lots and lots of pets! Even when she eats, she likes to be petted, and if you walk away she will leave her food and come running to you for more pets. And she's floofy, so it's an enjoyable experience for everyone! She likes to be brushed, too. And feather wands are no match for her--she loves to play with them.

Her foster parents have learned that she really doesn't like to be picked up--not that she bites or scratches or anything, she just freezes and is on alert. Similarly, she freezes and looks terrified when her foster parents put her on the bed next to them to pet her. When you don't have food, Anisette is cautious and will run to watch you from one of her hiding places (we think she is worried we will try to pick her up), so her foster parents have started to take a different tack and just reach into her watching place and petting her and not picking her up--and Anisette has started learning that this is cool, because she starts purring up a storm! Her foster parents think that with patience, time, a quiet adoptive home, and a regular schedule of exposing her to more and more pets in places where she feels safe, she will learn not to be cautious and be roaming her new house in no time. LCCR has lots of experience and can help a new adopter step by step with this process.

Anisette was born in December 2024. She gets along with other kitties who aren't domineering and dogs who know good cat manners. She would also be just fine as a solo cat, but she does seem to like human interaction! Someone working from home full time might also be a great option for her. A smaller home or apartment would also be perfect for her so she isn't overwhelmed. Kids would probably be too overwhelming for her.

Anisette's adoption donation is $140 and includes age-appropriate vaccines, dewormer, flea treatment, Felv/FIV testing, microchip, and spay. All adopted kitties are to be kept as indoor-only pets.
