Amelia & Saba (bonded pair)'s Story
A beautiful rescue story from Amelia and Saba's foster dad... help us find them the purr-fect home!

Meet Amelia and Saba!

Amelia became my very first foster after she and her nine siblings were rescued from a neglect home in Jersey City. I struggled to win this orange beauty’s trust despite my best efforts to bribe her with treats and toys. Amelia had zero interest in the toys and would cautiously come for treats only if I placed them a few inches from me. After a few weeks, she finally came close enough to grab the treats from my hand or from my leg before quickly retreating away. Little did I know at the time that the key to Amelia’s heart was living on the streets, just a few feet from my home.

Enter Saba! This gray tabby visited my next door neighbor everyday for food and often hung out on their stoop. I don’t know her backstory, but within seconds of first meeting Saba, she rubbed her head against my leg and sought out my hand for pets. With the help of Amelia’s rescuers and their amazing network, I was able to trap Saba and get her spayed. My initial hope was that my neighbor who fed Saba would adopt her as an indoor cat, but when that did not happen, I decided to let her live with me and Amelia.

During Saba’s recovery from her spay surgery, I kept her in a bathroom and away from Amelia. Amelia meowed and cried all the time outside the bathroom door excited to meet her new friend. As a first-time foster, I was concerned about how that initial meeting would go. Turns out that Saba was just want Amelia needed. Shortly after meeting, Amelia and Saba became inseparable. Saba became the teacher I so desperately wanted to be for Amelia and showed her that she could trust me.

Amelia is still a bit skittish at times, but allows me to pet her and gives me leg headbutts (especially with treats nearby). She also allows me to brush her after watching how much Saba enjoys it. Saba exudes calm energy, confidence and curiosity and has taught Amelia to trust and open up. She has also taught Amelia how to play with toys and that humans can be her friends too. Saba was the true cat whisper in helping Amelia break out of her shell.

The universe brought these two together and we're not about to mess with the universe, so we are looking for a kind soul who will welcome Saba and Amelia into their family. This well-behaved and sweet duo are great at keeping themselves entertained, so they will never be lonely even when you are not home.

Thank you for reading their story.
