Abner the Affectionate's Story

Adorable Abner is an abandoned house cat who’s about two years old. We had seen him on and off in a Harlem courtyard for months. However, his habits were inconsistent, making his rescue extremely challenging. Finally, on a frigid night in January, Abner walked into our trap, eager to be safe and warm at last. Despite whatever trials he’d faced alone on the streets, once inside he immediately began purring and rolling over on his back for pets.

Abner’s a super affectionate, rather vocal lap cat. He’s extremely curious - greeting human visitors at the door, eagerly trying to befriend his foster siblings, and exploring new frontiers in the apartment. He follows his foster mom from room to room and loves to play, although he’s equally content to lie quietly nearby, wherever she is. He’d do well in a household with kids and/or other animals.

Abner is FIV+, so his new family will need to be mindful about regular vet visits and good nutrition. Because he’s such a gentle cat, without an aggressive bone in his body, there are no concerns about him transmitting the virus. FIV+ cats can and do live long, healthy lives, even in households with FIV negative kitties.
This snuggly guy will melt your heart at first glance. He’d make an incredible addition to any family!
