Abby's Story

Hi everyone, I’m Abby, a girl with some real “Tortie-tude”. I arrived at my foster-family’s place in April (2025) with my son, Hudson, in tow. We are both wobbly cats, but my wobble is not bad, it only shows up when I have to move really fast and I lose my coordination, and sometimes when I am trying to sit really still, then my legs shake a bit. It’s a neurological thing.

My fosters don’t think that I am very old, maybe 2-3 years of age. I love to play and get really excited about toys. I like the feathers on the fishing rod. That’s so much fun for me. I have also learned that playing in paper bags is fun too. I think this is really the first time I have been where I haven’t had to be on alert and worried about my kitten, so I am learning to relax and play.

When I first arrived here, I didn’t want to be touched, but since they have treats and I have been rewarded for being touched, I realized that human attention is actually pretty OK. I now head butt my fosters’ hands for treats and expect pets first. I haven’t learned to be picked up yet, that’s going to take a lot more time and patience.

My fosters actually find me pretty cute and demanding. I chat whenever I want attention, which is often, and I have a schedule that they have to keep too. Every morning, before they can leave for work, I demand my squeeze-up treat, and then every evening after their supper, I sing for my wet-food dinner. And of course, regular kitty treats are expected every chance I get to get a pet.

As for the kind of home I need, I am OK with the small family dog, but I don’t want to be chased by one, that kind of hurry is scary, and I get so clumsy when I have to run.

I am able to jump up on the sofa or a chair by myself, but I don’t climb up on the cat trees. My new family may have to make some accommodation for me and my mobility issues and provide a ramp or steps if they want me to get up on taller furniture or a bed.

As far as children, it’s important that they understand that I am not a touchy-feely girl, no picking me up at all, and no petting unless they have a treat, and I can not be chased because of my wobble. I could hurt myself if I got chased. I may benefit from the company of another cat because I do learn by example too but I’m OK if they are independent like me.

Really though, if you want a friendly girl, that may need to learn treat rationing, is not clingy, but is playful, and does enjoy being in proximity to humans especially if you have a treat, and won’t be sitting on the counter tops, I may be just the cat for you.

Please consider adopting Abby into your loving home. If you can’t adopt her, please share her story and help her find her forever home.

If you are interested in adopting Abby, please contact us at frederictoncarma@gmail.com.

Fill out an adoption application here: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSfZFfrReR_SFRgIQYba6kxfNkxsiQ0bktXtIIrJb_ZRPKQbcg/viewform?fbclid=IwAR1U6c4NbehUd-O2WaqGAxpZvrcuovBBlDXKgSEGbvyZGPkORDyB21KaHGs

As of October 2024, the adoption donations will be:

- Adult cat (over 12 months): $125
- Kitten (12 months and under): $200

Would you like to make a one-time donation to help cats like Abby? CARMA, Fredericton Chapter's Adoption Policy
So, you've found your potential new best friend... send us an email and we'll get the ball rolling for you! All cats and kittens available for adoption by CARMA Fredericton are treated to ensure they do not have fleas, ear mites, roundworm, tapeworms, or heartworm. They are spayed/neutered and vaccinated at Ca-R-Ma's expense. We do not sell cats or kittens; instead we request that adopters donate to our spay/neuter fund. This amount can change from time to time - please check with our volunteers for the current minimum donation. CARMA does not have a shelter but instead relies on a network of loving foster homes to help us socialize and care for adoptable cats.
