Whitebird's Story

Whitebird (Bitty) & Lenna are a pair of bonded budgies.

These two little ladies may not be interested in people, but they've found something special in each other. Now they're looking for a forever home where they can continue to grow and thrive together.

Whitebird, lovingly called Bitty by her foster family, came from a home where she had minimal interaction and spent most of her time in her cage. She's still learning what life can be like with space, safety, and kindness. Bitty is very comfortable in her cage and skittish around people, but she's adapting surprisingly well with slow and steady progress. She listens intently when people talk to her and is starting to tolerate hands reaching into her space. Her favorite activity is sitting fully inside her food dish at mealtime, and she loves relaxing on her boing.

Lenna has a bold spirit and a big heart for other birds. She was found outside, hopping through bushes and clearly asking for help. While she's not interested in human interaction, she is extremely social with other budgies and sings constantly to her foster siblings and even birds on YouTube. She's a confident flier and lives for her out-of-cage time. The moment her cage door opens, she takes flight, explores, and eventually settles by the window to watch the world or take a nap pressed up against the glass.

Together, Bitty and Lenna make an entertaining and sweet pair. Bitty gains confidence from Lenna's adventurous nature, and Lenna enjoys having a feathered friend to share her space. They preen, chirp, explore, and keep each other company in the most heartwarming ways.

They are still transitioning to a healthier diet. Neither have been convinced on the wonders of pellets...yet. While they aren't hand-tame, they are thriving with patient care, enrichment, and the freedom to just be birds.

If your home has room for a sweet pair of independent budgies who love each other deeply, Bitty and Lenna may be the perfect fit.
Adoption Fee for both birds: $30

STAR - St. Louis Avian Rescue's Adoption Policy
Please note, due to the quantity of emails that we receive, simply "starting an inquiry" will not receive a reply. Please email info@staravian.org if you have a specific question. The first step is to fill out an Adoption Application, which can be found on our website. All birds are in volunteer foster homes, and a meeting may not be set up until you are approved to adopt. Our adoption team will process your application and set up a home visit. All current pets (including any birds cockatiel and larger) must be up to date on yearly wellness exams and any state mandated vaccines. We do not ship birds, and have a 100-mile adoption radius (using St. Louis Lambert Airport as the start point). We do not adopt to breeders. We are not able to adopt birds into homes that use Teflon product or smoke due to toxicity dangers.
