Tinker's Story
Meet Tinker! She is one half of an unlikely duo. What's the joke about the Amazon and Moloccan who walk into a bar?...

Tinker is estimated to be about 40 years old, with an unknown history. What we do know is that her owner recently passed away and Tinker, along with her Amazon bestie Max, was transferred to us by local animal control. While they were shy and uncertain at first, as any bird would be with such abrupt change of circumstances, they have gradually settled into foster care and made apparent their individual personalities.

Tinker is a gentle, sweet cockatoo who took to her foster family right away. She is hand-tame, so she is comfortable stepping up and loves to be held. She can occasionally display hesitation with new things, but her body language is very clear and easy to observe. Although relatively quiet (so far), Tinker is a cockatoo and can make noises that are appropriately loud for her species. Remember, these birds would be living in the high canopy of Indonesian forests and thus their call needs to be loud enough to carry across the trees! With that being said, she will need to live in a home without any shared walls.

Because Tinker is an older bird, she does suffer from arthritis. Adjustments will need to be made to her cage to accommodate this and make it easily accessible for her, particularly her food and water bowls. Tinker's arthritis sometimes causes her to have an odd, uneven posture as she adjusts her weight from one foot to the other, so she occasionally has sores on the bottom of her feet. She has a topical cream that she uses to prevent infection and promote healing when these sores pop up.

Max and Tinker are very closely bonded and will need to be adopted together. Although they do not share a cage, they enjoy each other's company and have been in the same household for a very long time. Outside of the cage, Max even preens Tinker and seems particularly dependent upon her for companionship. They will need a patient home that understands large parrot behavior, respects boundaries, and is patient enough to understand that winning Max's trust might take some time.

Max and Tinker's combined adoption fee is $500.
